conceptmachine Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 (edited) How about I give you one and I'll buy them all? lol. Nah...I'm not a reseller right now...i have all the sets since 2010. I haven't sold a 1. Some doubles of what I really like. I'm just looking for 1 more orthanc. Edited August 23, 2015 by conceptmachine Quote
mfortunek Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I'm in a precarious position here...because there are no brickvestors, sets are widely available after retirement. The downside is that I probably won't be able to sell more than 1 or 2 per year as we have very few AFOLS. I can always sell to a reseller in the states, but then it needs to go at least $300 over msrp for me to cover shipping costs. So if I get another 5 I'm either in for a very long haul to move it all here, or I must hope that it reaches $600-$1000 within a few years, then I can sell a batch of 5 to another reseller in europe or the states.I'm in a precarious position here...because there are no brickvestors, sets are widely available after retirement. Makes perfect sense. I think Europe is your target market on this one... 1 Quote
S.African.AFOL Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I found two minty fresh Town Halls in a toy shop in Namibia in July...if that gives you an idea of how slow the market is here! 5 Quote

S.African.AFOL Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Negative. 230 euro it is.That's rough. Our currency took a fugly tumble today, putting the current euro price of a ToO at €160 and the USD price at $186. Our next price adjustment is going to be nasty. That's rough. When the adjustment comes I'll have to pull a big trigger on Tumbler, DS, EV and 42009. Hopefully the new TB stock has landed by then. Quote
Ciglione Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Yeah... nothing is sure anymore these days. Lego (as investment) seems to be the last man standing. Quote
S.African.AFOL Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 "...rough tough stuff..."D. Trumphaha - short of Kim Jong Un and Robert Mugabe, we probably have the worst president on the planet...but Donald Trump would give him a run for his money. It's the damn immigrants that are preventing the retirement of the DS! Quote

Val-E Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 You should have bought more and now the QFLL are going to rub their hands. This seems to be the standard situation - reseller remorse about not making number, pushes up prices dramatically, then the set stalls as not enough real customers come in. S.African.AFOL Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 QFLL? I presume QF stands for quick flip, but I'm not sure what the LL is for? Quote

Secondary prices are only going to go in one direction - maybe they stop but there is at least 3 months sustained growth in this one.Time will tell. Maybe there will be sincere demand for this set and you are wrong. You are jumping conclusions here.Low LifeThere will definitely be true buyer demand, it´s just how far they are willing to carry it once the horde has dropped the ball. It would seem this is not another AA debacle as it could be less hoarded and the buyer profile is more rich AFOL LOTR completist. I have 1 which is a bad number because you are always paranoid you sell it too soon. May pick up a second but that would be it for me as I have too much stock as it is. zskid00 Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 If anything LOTR is going to "pop" post-retirement at this point (outside of Unexpected Gathering) I would put money on this one and maybe The Lonely Mountain if it disappears before the end of the year. This is such an impressive looking build and I actually bought 3 more of them in the last couple weeks after I thought I was done. I just need to make sure I pop the seals on one for my personal collection soon because it's going to be harder to open when the prices start to climb. 2 Quote

Lovely details and some nice techniques, as well. Buy one (at least used or from AWD). Quote

I would bet on ToO all the way though as LM is rarer but just so overpriced already. Quote

It's going to be one of the must have display sets like 10210. Unlike modulars and star wars ships, you can put money on the fact that Lego will probably never make another castle this impressive (unless they can license GOT - Winterfell?? ) Once I can get my hands on the right display case I'm going to have this next to the Black Pearl and the Tumbler.
