7965 - Millennium Falcon

Some day it might be something I try to modify those legs.... but I have a problem (well, one of many haha), I'm a Lego set purist 99% of the time. I don't like to modify sets unless there is a significant problem with them that causes them to fall apart, etc. Or I do small things like I did with my 41999 where I mounted the extra license plate under the chassis to keep it with the set.

Working on a deal for some used sets including two 7965s so maybe it'll be my chance soon. My fingers are sore from assembling the rear tracks for the UCS Sandcrawler last night though!

IIRC the technic pieces used to build the legs were integral to the stability of the model itself.  Plus, they were tight fits to the bottom chasis.  But I digress ;)

This was actually the set that drew me back into Lego. I display it and think it looks great. If I were to list a couple gripes about it, it would be the cockpit that only fits one figure and the hidden cargo chamber that is virtually unusable other than to the tiniest of fingers.

You can fit two figures in the cockpit, it's a bit cozy but they fit.

Likewise! This set brought me out of the dark ages.

And yes as the picture shows you can fit 2, Just have 1 figures arm moved behind him if i recall (sold mine as i have the 10179).

is it this year? there were no reports of MF coming out from UK Toy fair posts

I read somewhere that the Star Wars info was very thin on purpose. I'm still a little confused about the MF though... Last I read was in some super secret meeting they were shown a MF model but told that it would not be an official Lego set, but that rather some very large 4 legged (AT-AT) set was being billed as the next likely UCS model.

And then the rumors of an Ewok Village level MF playset emerged... I've yet to see some real substantial info about so Mr Stephen Rockefeller, if you're holding out on us, time to spill the beans. ;)

Well recapped.

I agree they are keeping quiet on the "good stuff" UCS and this set.  I guess it may be late spring before we hear.  Thats a wild guess.

I have 2 sources. One source is the brick show guys and they seem to be spot on. The other source who is far more reliable than the brick show guys but unfortunately he doesn't want his name thrown around and I have to respect that.

You don't HAVE to... but you should. That's good enough for me though.

Anything you can tell us about it "off the record"? :pleasantry:

I don't think LEGO will be allowed to show any Episode 7 sets at the upcoming Toy Fairs, at least not in any public capacity.  I can't see any of them being available during the summer release in July/August so far ahead of the movie release.  I expect them to hold these close to the vest and have a firm street date just before the movie comes out.  I have no idea if the Falcon will be in the first wave, but even if it is it will still be a while before we get any official confirmation from LEGO.

All I've been told is we are getting one no other specifics. With Disney being so kid oriented I just don't think it's gonna be the AFOL beast we all want it to be. It Will be interesting to see if lego and Disney aim to please the AFOLs as much as they lego did in the past before Disney came along.

Thanks.

I'm torn... I think I would be more likely to get one if it was kid oriented. I have an SSD with my name on it and I've yet to build it because I have nowhere to put it? Where the heck would I put a 10179-sized MF? And I'm not one to keep sets in the box.

My oldest kid (7) is barely into Star Wars. I'm really hoping this new movie hooks him just a little... He does enjoy playing with the Star Wars Lego we have, and we have a bunch of "learn to read" Star Wars books I used to read to him, but he basically has zero interest in it beyond that. Even Star Wars Rebels .. he's watched it, but doesn't care to watch it on Netflix when he has a chance. Damn Pokemon and Minecraft. :)

lets just hope the new one is designed better than 7965. i still can't believe that one retailed for $139.99 for what was included. the lego art dept did a wonderful job with the 7965 box (making the set look superior than it actually is).  anyway, i don't want to rant.

btw, my kid likes 7965 just because it's the MF. it does seem to fall apart quite easily when he's using it as a playset.

If memory serves I think I read somewhere that the antennas/dishes on top of the new falcon were different. ?

Oh and don't forget the box art for the new MF will have a lovely Disney stamp of approval.

So Stephen. Did the nameless guy/contact verify that it's indeed a new MF or just a new "re-release"

no specifics yet.  prob ep 7 centric and keeping the play value.  who knows though but like stephen said, we are getting one soon.

The new one will be superior in design than 7965, but it will also come with several "hidden mickeys" that will be integral to the stability of the build :D

Oh and a smaller cockpit that barely fits 1 minifig, to make it in scale ;)
