7965 - Millennium Falcon

Yep, no one will buy star wars anymore, it's done.

I did go a bit too strong in my first statement :)

I  intended to describe the impact it would have (for me) from an investment point if view. All things being equal when investing large sums of money I would rather not have the Disney logo in my face. I see Disney I think of Bambi, which makes it slightly less cool. May then decide to get the old set.

At the very extreme how would you feel if they put it in a yellow box?

Yep, no-one cares about the original star wars stuff - all those 1970's/1980's Star Wars toys are worth nothing now....yeah right!  :sarcastichand:

Exactly.. Being a fan of SW is one thing, understanding the draw to the vintage figures/vehicles is another thing altogether. I just had an offer for over $10K for a single SW item in my collection. Granted, it is a pre-production toy from '77, but still..

Disney stamp doesn't bother me... I have a positive view of them.  Love their content and have annual passes to Disneyland.  Marvel. Star Wars. Pixar. etc etc.  Disney is where its at.  There are collectors that focus on Disney items and memorabilia.  Look at what the Disney brand does to collectible pins or artwork...

I've had stock in them for a while now and its done very well.  I want to see Disney logos on everything I buy.

Guys... relax... let us first wait and see how the new movie will be and how the general public will receive it.

What I've noticed the last years is that the influence of movies or videos on the general public has changed and decreased. As an example: I remember when I was a kid and Michael Jackson's video Thriller was aired the first time. Everyone, yes everyone, was talking about it. It was covered everywhere on tv and in the newspapers. Nowadays this does not happen so often anymore (except maybe us here on the forum and other AFOLS). People have netflix and other things to watch what they want and when they want to watch it. There is no more widely and common interest in the same thing as was for example in the eighties. Also things change faster. Today this is famous and booming and tomorrow people run after something else.

People will disagree with me perhaps. But this is how I look at things.

Just a small piece of advice to make your experience a bit more enjoyable here, when you make it sound like you are all knowing and have it all figured out you won't fit in too well. Opinions are always welcome but the "I know this for sure" angle doesn't sit well with almost all members here who understand that it's impossible to predict what will happen in the future. Just a bit of friendly advice you can take it or leave it.

Unless of course you are ChristopherJB...  :derisive:

There is a reason why his ass has been banned so many times. He continually gives out bad advice and skirts the rules. That's a very big difference to passing your opinion off as a fact and sounding like a total d--- while doing it. Edited by gregpj

R2-D2 is cute an all, but I'm a huge Star Wars fan and I could care less about a Lego R2-D2 unless that thing moves.

And I feel I echo the majority of Star Wars fans in saying I'd much rather own a Lego Millennium Falcon than an R2-D2.

The demand of the R2 will not even come close to the demand of the Millennium Falcon.

Sure, if you want to stock up on R2's that's your prerogative. There's quite a large supply out there. We'll see if the demand will be there for that thing in a few years.

But don't be surprised if it's not. What we're about to go through is a whole new hurricane of brand new Star Wars merchandise. People aren't gonna care about the old stuff as much as they did before there was no sign of a new Star Wars movie ever coming out again. But now there is, so it changes the game.

And look, they're already making a new Lego Millennium Falcon. What's to stop them from making a new/better R2-D2. Sure there might be some people who want the classics. But probably not enough to sell more than a couple of R2-D2's per year, at the price you're hoping to sell for. There's gonna be a lot of sellers trying to sell this thing, and having to cut prices lower than they want, just to sell these things.

If there wasn't these new Star Wars movies coming out, then yes Lego R2 would be a great investment because we'll never see him again on the big screen.

Just like we'll never see the Super Star Destroyer, and we'll never see the Death Star again.

And the the Prequel Trilogy sucked, so nobody cares about stuff from those movies. So what we've all had to live for was the Original Trilogy stuff.

But JJ Abrams is introducing us to a whole new world of Star Wars characters and places and ships. Finally. Star Wars fans have New stuff to live for. New stuff worthy of caring about, and new merchandise/toys/legos to add to our collection. It will finally be time for fans to let go of the old stuff that we held on to for so long. And embrace all the new exciting things that Star Wars has in store for us.

I will bet you one UCS Sandcrawler that the 10225 UCS R2-D2 will outperform the 7965 Millennium Falcon.

I just wish, that indeed if the MF clock is ticking, then lets jack that baby up so I can get rid of my two paperweights. 149.00 plus shipping ain't going to cut it for me. After shipping, and time at the post office, you may as well just take me out back and kick me in the ---s instead. Let's make some profit before it's too late!

I see this said all the time. In the day of printing postage online and free pickups, who actually goes to the post office anymore?

Yinchuan, If you are planing to stay on the game I strongly recommend buying a scale. There are vey affordable ones on amazon at all times. And sometimes you can get deals on really good scales, search on BP there are threads about storage, scales and the such. A 10 lb scale will be good for almost everything a beginner can need.

In the mean time you can always use a body scale for medium and big sets (e.***  MF, HH, TH) just pack your order stand on scale holding package then stand alone and subtract the two numbers, round up.

Even if you don't give your package to your postman for pick up, printing labels and just dropping off at post office will save you some time.
