7965 - Millennium Falcon

I thought several members talked about selling them for 140-150 at Christmas time.  I may be wrong.

Here's an auction from today

It shows as $151.24 with ship fees

http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEGO-STAR-WARS-9492-TIE-FIGHTER-RETIRED-SEALED-HARD-TO-FIND-SOLD-OUT-/321634447373?pt=Building_Toys_US&hash=item4ae2e8300d

This one on 12/23 from Japan with ship is about $150

http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEGO-Star-Wars-Tie-Fighter-TM-9492-/161355053343?pt=Building_Toys_US&hash=item259182b91f

In any event whether it sells for 150 125 or 100 we are supposed to throw it all away

TREK Don't worry about what people say or do here. Do your own thing. You get too riled up when someone says something you don't like.

No big deal I am but a padawan smelling flowers in a field of masters

People say things and I respond

My its all garbage was a repeat from my first post

I didn't start the discussion but jumped in

Back to throwing it all out...

Actually selling most of my 7965 at $210 and keeping a few

On better news 15 degree below wind chill and my heater just choked. $1000 to fix it sometime tomorrow

That should go in the I love it thread

I can't think of a single bad call you have made and you have made some nice, more against the grain of conventional buy this buy that speak.  So a big *high-five* to trekgate who I think can be brought before the jedi council.

Let's see, mil falcon of course, tie fighter, you were all over r2-d2 when everyone thought "no way it gets the axe before the new movies".

R2-D2 is cute an all, but I'm a huge Star Wars fan and I could care less about a Lego R2-D2 unless that thing moves.

And I feel I echo the majority of Star Wars fans in saying I'd much rather own a Lego Millennium Falcon than an R2-D2.

The demand of the R2 will not even come close to the demand of the Millennium Falcon.

Sure, if you want to stock up on R2's that's your prerogative.  There's quite a large supply out there.  We'll see if the demand will be there for that thing in a few years.

But don't be surprised if it's not.  What we're about to go through is a whole new hurricane of brand new Star Wars merchandise.  People aren't gonna care about the old stuff as much as they did before there was no sign of a new Star Wars movie ever coming out again.  But now there is, so it changes the game.

And look, they're already making a new Lego Millennium Falcon.  What's to stop them from making a new/better R2-D2.  Sure there might be some people who want the classics.  But probably not enough to sell more than a couple of R2-D2's per year, at the price you're hoping to sell for.  There's gonna be a lot of sellers trying to sell this thing, and having to cut prices lower than they want, just to sell these things.

If there wasn't these new Star Wars movies coming out, then yes Lego R2 would be a great investment because we'll never see him again on the big screen.

Just like we'll never see the Super Star Destroyer, and we'll never see the Death Star again.

And the the Prequel Trilogy sucked, so nobody cares about stuff from those movies.  So what we've all had to live for was the Original Trilogy stuff.

But JJ Abrams is introducing us to a whole new world of Star Wars characters and places and ships.  Finally.  Star Wars fans have New stuff to live for.  New stuff worthy of caring about, and new merchandise/toys/legos to add to our collection.    It will finally be time for fans to let go of the old stuff that we held on to for so long.  And embrace all the new exciting things that Star Wars has in store for us.

By the same logic all of the original trilogy stuff should have become worthless once the prequels were on the table. I'm fairly certain that the classic star wars sets continue to perform better on average than any of their counter parts. In addition I don't believe that just because a new MF is likely to come out that its going to kill the value of the 7965. While its not anything as close to as iconic as the MF look at the performance of the Sail Barge old vs new.

I just wish, that indeed if the MF clock is ticking, then lets jack that baby up so I can get rid of my two paperweights. 149.00 plus shipping ain't going to cut it for me. After shipping, and time at the post office, you may as well just take me out back and kick me in the ---s instead. Let's make some profit before it's too late!

That is so funny because it is plain wrong on practically almost every account. A young padawan you must be.

Haven't you heard? All the die hard original trilogy fans just fell in love with Elsa and now fully support Disney's buying of Star Wars. Because of this they only want the new sets.

I think it's been raised before but if they put the Disney logo on the front of the box that will have a huge negative impact of the new sets. Conversely, the sets they are replacing will have go through the roof. Wait for the box art.

I don't understand this concern at all. Every new star wars item will have the disney logo on it. It's already happened.

It will not damage lego sales in the slightest. It will probably increase visibility, awareness, and market share.

Just a small piece of advice to make your experience a bit more enjoyable here, when you make it sound like you are all knowing and have it all figured out you won't fit in too well. Opinions are always welcome but the "I know this for sure" angle doesn't sit well with almost all members here who understand that it's impossible to predict what will happen in the future. Just a bit of friendly advice you can take it or leave it.

Wasn't that awfully polite of you? :)

If I know one thing about Star Wars fans, its that they won't ever let go of the original Trilogy. Darth Vader, Luke, Han, Jabba, R2, C3PO, Boba Fett - the list goes on... The popularity of the new Slave 1 set also backs that up.

The big question for me is will the new Star Wars films pull new fans into the original trilogy? It's a big unknown but I think the answer is yes. My brickfolio thinks so too!

Negative opinions are always valuable ... as the positive ones...

Pretty funny rant nontheless.

Less OT sets due to new movies? Most likely (the degree depends on the success of the movie) in the short run. No OT sets at all? Extremely unlikely. Iconic OT vehicles/characters reappearing time to time? Very likely indeed. A Falcon among them? Sure! I could bet my left kidney that we will see a new OT Falcon in a similar size in the next 5 years.

Why? Mainly because the appearance of new movies will increase the interest in the old ones as well. Kids will want to see the full story. OT won't disappear, it will even become stronger with possible new fans. Then add the large amount of fans who will always credit the OT as the best (with or without basis) to the mix. Why should they matter? Because too many of them are parents. Parents like to buy stuff they are familiar with and have some emotional connection. Imagine a parent going into a store looking for some SW stuff for his/her kid with these options:
A: random stuff he/she doesn't recognize

B: Falcon, AT-AT whatever

Which one has the higher probability to be chosen?

I don't think having a Disney logo will have any affect on prices positively or negatively. I'm buying a millennium falcon for the millennium falcon, not the logos on the box.

Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Brickpicker mobile app

When people talk about the past disney failures they were just bad sets. No one cares about Lone Ranger. No one cared about POTC except the ships. No one cares about Princess. That has nothing to do with a disney stamp and more to do with bad sets of bad lines. I bet you John Carter sets would fail and Tron would be huge and no one would give two shits about a disney stamp.

All in my humble opinion of course

I see lots of listings at inflated eBay prices right now. While I understand the Christmas phenemon, I'm curious if people are still having successful sales at this point, or if sales have turned a bit stagnant? I've got one sad, sad lonely MF that needs a good home. Just wondering if it's time to make that happen or if it might be better to watch and wait for a bit?

I personally don't like the Disney stamp but it won't influence my buying tbh

If I have to choose between a proper UCS box (Slave I, I know it doesn't have one now but let's imagine it) and a ***** one (X-Wing) I am perfectly fine with the logo. As long as the box design, which is the most important issue in my opinion, is right I can accept Disney.

Yep, no-one cares about the original star wars stuff - all those 1970's/1980's Star Wars toys are worth nothing now....yeah right!  :sarcastichand:

I just sold my last one that I paid 100 for for 200 plus shipping. That's not good enough to move the msrp ones I have.
