Fcbarcelona101 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Nope, a friend sent it to me. Was your friend watching 60 Minutes? lol. They had a segment with Jeff Bezos and they actually talked about this for a couple minutes and showed how it works. Great stuff, but still on diapers. Quote
segreto Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Funny. I imagine that with a 25 minute battery life and a top speed of 15 mpg, these deliveries could happen if you live across the street from an Amazon facility. Would be fun to shoot some of these down, though. Try making some deliveries to the hood. You will never see them again. 2 Quote
lowillsw Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 If Jeff Bezo can make that work, he might as well buy up all the Walmarts, Targets and liquor stores with his over-inflated stock then turn them all into distribution centers. I would love to have these drones send me bottles of scotch through my window within 30 minutes. Quote
rcdb1984 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 i'd shoot that thing down like katniss and take my SSD, k thx bai. 2 Quote

exciter1 Posted December 2, 2013 Author Posted December 2, 2013 I'm sure they deliver Scuzzlebutt too (with the Patrick Duffy leg). Quote
Darth_Raichu Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Am I the only one excited about getting tons of those sturdy looking yellow plastic boxes from Amazon Prime Air ? I can sell those easily on eBay (or Amazon ) Finally, a way to make money off of the shipping materials Quote
nolanfan34 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I don't even care if they ever do it. The fact they are even thinking about it is awesome. Bezos is the new Jobs IMO. Quote
asharerin Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Well this is truly game changing. It will be interesting to see how Amazon's share price reacts tomorrow. When Air becomes available it will be the end of big box retail as we know it. Fedex and UPS will also be quaking in their boots. Also interesting is the set top box they are working on to provide ala carte streaming of media. Say goodbye to cable and dish. I love how Bezos is grounded enough to know Amazon won't last forever as well. Quote
TheOrcKing Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 This is certainly interesting but they are definately going to need bigger/stronger drones to ship most goods as that yellow container barely looked large enough for a battlepack esque sized set. I honestly keep seeing some yokel sitting in their front yard taking potshots at each one that flies past. Quote
justafrog Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I'm wondering how they're going to keep them from maiming toddlers and household pets who might be hanging out on the front porch. Our Jack Russell Terrier would strenuously object to airborne invaders and try her best to take it out. Quote
asharerin Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Bezos says they are all automated. I am guessing with the first gen drones you would lay out a landing pad that the drones would lock onto once they get to the correct GPS co-ordinates. Hopefully customers would be smart enough to have people and pets stand clear of the pad lol. Quote
kunfuzd Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I checked my calendar after seeing the video... Nope, not April 1st. Quote
stephen_rockefeller Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Interesting..........many years away though I suspect. Quote

He more than likely would have run head first into the fence in an effort to get the damn thing. Dumbass.... 1 Quote
Grolim Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 They're gonna need to improve the battery life a bit to get them across the Pacific Ocean to me! 1 Quote
@rtisan Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 It`ll be like shooting *****! And I get prizes!! Oh goody, yes please!!! Apparently the filter doesn't` like that word. Oops. I`ll use "clay " instead. Quote
brickolodon Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 From USA TODAY Is there a 'dark side' to Amazon drones and Google robots? Is there a 'dark side' to automation? http://usat.ly/1bkcsB1 Quote
