comicblast Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 I could see that. My money is more on The Croc Swamp Hideout and Eglor's Speed Bike (in the long term anyway). That's a winner probably...Plus Craggers Ship and the Lion Chi Temple. I think the worst thing in the theme is the speedorz and several of the smaller sets. The larger ones that have MSRP's of $50+ are decent though!! Quote
jaisonline Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 At the least, I thought it could have been pronounced as 'ki ma' or 'kai ma' in the beginning around last year when the preview images came in but it turned out to be standard 'che ma' in the TV series. To me, 'she ma' sounded far off as pronunciation goes. I've just never heard the spirit energy of Chi pronounced as 'she'; that's what threw me off. I agree about "chi". Btw, when was the last time anyone pronounced CHIcago as "Shee-cago" in any region. Quote
Bsusanka Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 My local Target has all Chima sets marked down 30 percent. I know next to nothing about Chima. Do people think Chima is a good long term investment or will they die out? Quote
Bsusanka Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 That should have been Chima clearance. Sorry for the type-o. Quote
krayzie Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Does the 20% off apply to the clearance price or is it just straight up 30% off msrp? Quote
Bsusanka Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Msrp. Is that a common thing for target to do for a whole line if it is selling slowly? Quote
Ed Mack Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Seems a bit high for a discount on Chima sets. Each Target store is different though. Quote
Bsusanka Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 So you think it might just be a specific Target store sale? Quote
Ed Mack Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Has to be. My Target(s) does not have these discounts. Quote
DoNotInsertIntoMouth Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Some of the sets look really cool so I may grab one or two of a few of them, but overall I am not going to count on it until I see results. Quote
rcdb1984 Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 I find no interest in Chima, maybe i'm an outlier, but to me they resemble animorphs meets transformers from when I was a kid....not really my thing. I like things that everyone can relate to... Quote
Bsusanka Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 They seem to be related to Ninjago, in my mind. Kind of strange alien/monster things. Quote
Bsusanka Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 I would be interested in the opinions of somebody who has done well investing in them. Quote
gregpj Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Its apparently all the rage at my kids school (grade one). Personally I'm not a fan and I've convinced my son that our Avengers, Star Wars and Ninjago Lego is way cooler. Quote
Huskers1236 Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 I would be interested in the opinions of somebody who has done well investing in them. With them being relatively new, there really won't be any data on them yet. Many people have been cold on these so far, but some of the builds are pretty cool. Problem with lines like this, IMO, is that AFOLS are your target demographic when selling retired sets. They have the money. Do you see them ponying up a bunch of money for that Chima set? I personally don't. Not saying I'm right, but I see more money in lines that AFOLS are going to relate to better, ALA Star Wars, DC/Marvel, classic lines from childhood, advanced building sets. You get the idea. 1 Quote
Quacs Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 I would be interested in the opinions of somebody who has done well investing in them. It's too early for Chima to realize any investment income as nothing is EOL from the theme, and the main sets are barely 9 months old. Those that believe in Chima feel the theme has great buiids and minifigures, and that the popularity it has begun to show will translate into investment pay-off, likely in 2-3 years. Those that don't question whether people will pay a premium for them once they're done, i.e. Atlantis and Pharoah's Quest. It's up to you to make that call. Quote
remy1492 Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 My target too had a 30% off but oddly for two days only. Huh? Either way i too find ccharacters with snouts and wings hard to play with. Quote
Ed Mack Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 They seem to be related to Ninjago, in my mind. Kind of strange alien/monster things. Ninjago sets are excellent investments. Love them or hate them, they still appreciate very well. Quote
Bsusanka Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 I am more than open to love them if they appreciate! I guess we will need to see if they have staying power like the star wars stuff Quote

comicblast Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 It's definitely a store-wide thing, or else CHIMA sets would be all over the Daily Deals page. Well, I guess they kind of already are. I'd try to steer clear of the Speedorz, but I think everything else has fair investment potential, especially the $75+ ones, like Cragger's Command Ship and Lion CHI Temple. Those are plain awesome sets! Quote
Bsusanka Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 With all this positive input for Chima, I am definitely going to look into them. Quote
TheOrcKing Posted September 28, 2013 Author Posted September 28, 2013 My local Target has all Chima sets marked down 30 percent.30%? My Target had it down to 20% off all Chima sets. Online is a little different though. Quote
Bsusanka Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 I was at another target last night and they did not have any discounts on Chima. I guess it is a single store sale. Quote
