awesomejim123
If I needed to make as much as possible selling lego by the 21st of June 2014, what would you recommend I invest in? About $500-$750 on starting money.

nolanfan34
Vampyre Castle, architecture Studio, Helm's Deep is where I would start.
DoNotInsertIntoMouth
Not sure Lego investing is gonna grab you that much honestly. But if you could score vampyre castles or Captain americas, those may continue rising.
justafrog
I wouldn't invest in Lego for short-term money. I'd invest in a leaf-blower, a snow-blower (if applicable for your location) and a lawn-mower. With those three things and a little gumption you'll make a lot between now and June 21.
Diabolos80
Look for CL lots you could flip. Or find a popular set you can part out. You're gonna have to put in some work if you want profits in 8 months.
Quacs
If you have the time, flip used sets or part-out sets you can get on clearances. The best part-out sets tend to be recently released licensed themed sets. Investing in any Lego sets with an 8 month time frame is difficult.
Quacs
I just edited the title of this thread to be a little less ambiguous.
Mos_Eisley
I wouldn't recommend buying anything if you need all your money back in June. Buying and selling LEGO isn't a get-rich-quick scheme. If you're intent on doing it, I would say Architecture Studios.
Jeff Mack
Yes, I would just get a second job. If you need money that bad, go for what is guaranteed and you can figure out how much you need to make.
awesomejim123
Yes, I would just get a second job. If you need money that bad, go for what is guaranteed and you can figure out how much you need to make. It's not like I'm desperate for money, it's more of a personal goal. I got back into Lego a few months ago, I mostly just wanted opinions on what sets that are retiring at the end of this year/summer of next that will raise in value nicely over a short period of time. Mos_Eisley
The market isn't what it was even a couple years ago. Sets are not going to continue to increase drastically in price right after they retire. There aren't too many sets out there that will make you a quick buck unless you can get them at a heavy discount.
sadowsk1
I would avoid any attempt at short term Lego investing. If you are hoping to turn a profit in a short amount of time you will be outside of a time window to return your items and break even. If that is the case I recommend buying through yoyo.com since they have the most lenient return policy I've ever heard of. Short term investing in Lego is a thing of the past and will only be rarely experienced again. I would get a part time job.

Guest brickcrazyhouse
or you could try your hand at MOCs and selling on ebay. It took about 3 weeks from ordering pieces from BL to selling.
binici
I've even investing for about three months now and this isn't easy. I've been purchasing VC and HD that are heavily discounted and instill haven't sold or plan on selling for a few more months... This is a type of ride that needs to be smooth and long. :p
Doofy McGee
When it comes to parting out, the $20 sets with three minifigs are a great place to start, and well within your budget. It is super common for them to go on sale at Amazon for somewhere between $15-$17, and if you get the right ones, you can sell two of the minifigs and get all your money back. That leaves the third mini and all the parts as profit. It's not a huge gain, but if you do it enough times, the money starts to add up.
kenchu2000
Hmmm, $500-750 can't buy you too much Lego to start with. I suggest you wait for the next Walmart, Target, or Kmart clearance sales, then grab whatever you can at 50-70% off. Be sure you are the first guy shows up at the store, or else another investor will clean out the shelves before you...
dr_teng
The only way you'll make short-term money in something like this is buying discounted or used (to pick apart for individual pieces).
