Agreed Architectural sets don't stand out as a quick flip.

I personally like the Lourve and Villa Savoy. When Myer or TRU have a decent sale I am happy to pick these up if available.

If you know where some of these are, I would gladly pick them up at RRP.

Even on Bricklink (where there is sometimes a bit of a lag for us) it is at $100 AUD already

Myer Brookside (QLD) had a few Lourve's on the shelves, finding anyore Villa's at RRP will be difficult.

It's been just over a year since I made my first LEGO sale (Kingdoms Chess Set) and I have learnt a lot since then because of this forum and personal experience.

As at 31/12/15, I am tracking at 48.76% ROI and 32.78% Margin for sold items. I am still sitting on an excessive amount of inventory as I often can't resist buying and sales are quite frequent here. I think that I will limit my buying this year (partly out of necessity) and allow some of what I have to appreciate a bit. I was pretty naive to start and wasted money/time on a lot of bad sets early last year but pretty much all of these are gone now and I feel OK with what I have. I am still a relative newcomer to this but the market seems a little more crowded now, and I can imagine that the landscape has really changed over the years for some of you veterans.

Has been a blast though, and I find it all very enjoyable. Can't wait to see some of the new sets that are slated for 2016.

I think you've hit the nail on the head in many aspects. Regardless of the amount of research that you do (either through here or privately) you will always make a wrong turn (believe me, I've still have Chima - even though I knew better). Funny how you mention the increase in resellers, another forum member and I chat offline regarding strategies and the environment and in the few years that I have been doing it, the reseller market has become thicker and thicker.

To slightly contradict my previous point, you will see an influx of resellers emerge (both on here and eBay) in the coming weeks/month due to the enticement of quick profits and better returns than "Gold". We have seen this yearly, and unfortunately, due to financial constraints, too hard or other reasons completely majority of the new comers fade in to obscurity.

I'm coming into my final year of uni and after this year I won't have the generous amounts of time that invest into this "hobby" and will also probably "invest" for fun opposed to thrill of the hunt.

My strongest piece of advice for members, especially those lured by a quick buck is to acknowledge the difference in the markets in which we operate. If you want to target the UK/US market (which is easy if you know how) target that market. A lot of advice that is freely given on the other forums does not and will not apply to our market (I have been burnt many times thinking that I should buy Batman set X or Spiderman Y).

I do take notice of certain comments that, frankly alarm me. One would be acquiring a retired set at higher than RRP. Unless it's for a personal build, you have missed the boat, move on to the next exclusive, stock up early if you have to, but acquiring for investment later at $100+ RRP is a fools game.

Very impressed with B and N's shipping.

So far it is beating Lego Shops from 20 Dec 15...

Same here, I should have both of mine by the end of the week. Again, not sure how they charge so little for shipping overseas, I guess we should enjoy it while it lasts.

Out of interest does anyone declare Lego sales to the ATO? I got my details sent to them by Ebay last year, and I've gone over the threshold again this year. I should be OK but it still makes me a bit nervous.

Yes we declare all sales . You have to watch the GST threshold . It is a lot of work once you go down that road.

Thanks, I'm only small time, around $15k in Ebay sales a year, but I'm thinking I'll need to declare it this year.

Are you taxed on it?

I'm just a small time seller trying to make a little profit...

Aren't we all.

I would say if you keep it below $10k on Ebay sales per financial year you're relatively safe. Don't underestimate the value of selling locally for cash, even if you're making less margin than on Ebay.

Yes , we pay tax on it.  But you really have to make a lot of money to pay a LOT of tax. Claim all your expenses . Use an accountant.

I think the BSS pages are gold dust...

I just closed out one of my first sales on Ebay, 33 dollars in fees, then they stung me 9 dollars in paypal fees, on a 315 dollar item...

bit of a joke since I'm under the impression they own paypal as well?

What is the limit to the GST threshold?

Yeah, they really do, which is strange... Because they had 1 - 3 years to buy it if they wanted it...

Without us they wouldn't be able to get them.

It's the same everywhere, everyone wants something for free.

It depends what you are selling really - some members are pretty nasty to the flipper on BSS.  I still think you get a better price on ebay - even with all the fees.

You definitely do I agree, however if that's income you need to declare and pay tax on then that changes the game.

75094 Tydirium might be a bit of a sleeper

Have seen the owner of ORT mention on Ozlug a few times that there will be no more deliveries of this set to Australian retailers. Whether this applies to the big retailers I'm not sure but the same thing was said about Scooby and it looks like that was correct.

Availability from LEGO will of course always be there, but if it goes at some point this year (ISD and AT-AT lasted for about 15 months I believe) it might do quite well. Really nice set which looks great when displayed in flight mode.

I got my two Tumblers from B &N  in two separate boxes.

One box is mint, the other one has a slight bow in it, came with the Lego box for one of them, so I unpacked the other one slid both in together in the Lego box and sealed it.

To put the B and N experience in perspective, I ordered stuff from Lego Aus on the 20th, arrived yesterday, I ordered this from B and N in the new year and arrives a day later...

The Lego one is absolutley mint though, resealed the box, now to play the waiting game.
