Alucard1982 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 I think it'll come down to pure luck or BSS pages now. I went to Barnes & Noble and they're gone also now Quote
Jules_K Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Tumbler was a Target exclusive in Australia, but they haven't stocked them for months, so I don't like your chances. It was available from B&N up until about 3 days ago for about $300 shipped, I regret not getting more (add it to the list). Quote
Alucard1982 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Was anyone else able to take advantage of Target's GC screwup this morning? $125 Coles GC for $100. I managed to get $250 ($200) and was in the process of writing about it on here and they caught on and disabled. Coles only, but it's not hard to convert them into ColesMyer. Quote
Alucard1982 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Whilst I'm on here, has anyone else encountered an influx of fruitcakes resulting from the Xmas period? I've had a few pop up in the last 24 hours. My main concern is an overseas buyer who is threatening -ve feedback for something he doesn't care to elaborate on or show pics. Yay! Quote
Ryan Junior Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 No increase on fruitcakes . Just the usual . Quote

It's knocked me for 6 getting 3 within a day. One is my fault (sent the wrong item, showed his affections by sending the RR back in a tough bag - completely pancaked) and the other is moaning about express post to Bum-fudge Idaho. Quote
Jules_K Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Without pics or evidence I think you should be able to get ebay to remove any negative feedback. What is he complaining about. I escaped the Christmas season unscathed somehow. There were a few who noted their item was damaged in thepost, however they still left positive feedback and didn't ask for a discount! Quote

Apparently he is a bionicles collector and I sent him a couple in a box so they wouldn't be damaged. eBay message was "Wasn't what I was expecting, I thought I would clarify with you before I left negative feedback". eBay's block buyer's tool is going to get a work out tonight Edited January 7, 2016 by Alucard1982 Quote
Jules_K Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 The sets weren't what he was expecting? Or the box they were sent in? Good luck with it. Quote

That's the beauty of my mind reading powers. Reading between the lines, is that the box was probably pulverised (which is obviously my fault as well). Quote
Ryan Junior Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 I have had a lot of buyers from overseas not pay . They ask me to cancel the item because their child purchased it by accident. But I have started now to refuse to cancel items, as half the time they don't click that they agree to having the item cancelled, when ebay send them an email asking if they agree, and I am stuck paying the fee on $700 worth of purchases. This happens even when I prompt them that they will need to agree when ebay send them the email , and also when I send them messages asking them to do it they still don't do it. It makes them pretty angry when I refuse to cancel, but I am sick of paying $70 for their mistake. I don't have time, several times a week to be ringing ebay to try and get my fees back. It happens several times a week. And it is usually large purchases. Anyone else had this problem? Quote

I'm actually having this problem arise a lot more frequently with "Best Offer" items (which they send an offer). All my listings with the exception of those are immediate pay. Quote
Jules_K Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 I've only had it happen once before and it was on a low value item. I think 99% of time it is buyers remorse and the buyer is lying, so I don't blame you for enforcing the sale or giving them negative feedback if they don't pay. Quote
Ryan Junior Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Yes . I think immediate pay might be the way to go! Thanks for that tip. That will help. Most people pay straight away anyway. Quote

JeffProbst Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Thoughts on Architecture sets as investments? I have built a few of the Architecture sets and they make decent display pieces, but unlike other themes I have never felt the urge to catch up on those sets that have retired. Saw a big pile of United Nations HQ available at a slight discount today but wasn't sure whether to bite. Quote

Not in your market obviously, but one of my first finds in the wild after starting investing was a Farnsworth House and a couple of Fallingwaters, needless to say I like Architecture now. From what I've seen of the market, the more obscure sets which will appeal to architecture buffs are the ones to go for, so I'm looking for the likes of Villa Savoye, rather than Lincoln Memorial. I agree with sprocket, the more unique ones attract the buffs. I had no problem selling a couple of FW within 2 hours of listing for 2x what I paid (close to RRP). The only one at the moment that catches my attention is the Imperial Hotel. Quote

I agreed with Alucard1982, most of the sets won't be a good investment in Australia especially when one can get them at a small usual discount from major outlets. Only the rarer ones such as FW or RH would be able to gain some interest. most of the current sets are a bit small and simple to gain sufficient interest. Maybe the imperial hotel and the lourve could be a hit..? Quote
Bennydaspaceman Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 (edited) Called all the main country vic targets the other day and no luck. Had to get a Tumbler for $430 on secondary market and I didn't want it to be the Haunted House or Fire Brigade I didn't get. Home you can still get one at a reasonable price. JeffProbst Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Some Architecture sets certainly stand out from the rest, but I also can't see any sets that have not increased in value after disappearing. Even extremely simple builds like the Empire State Building and old Burj have had a bit of a bump. Perhaps it's not a can't miss prospect in the current climate of LEGO buying/selling, but a bit of an under the radar theme. Looking at my email history FW was available this time last year, as I ordered one in Jan 15 from LEGO Shop at Home. Compare the number of ebay listings for Fallingwater now to TH, R2, GE etc. which also retired at around the same time, and it is nowhere near as horded even though it is an interesting model with a long life span. Even the Villa Savoye, which was available from David Jones online a month ago (and probably still on shelves somewhere), has increased instantly. Trevi is one that has my attention from the current range. Quote

ED-209 Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 In my experience, I find to Architecture sets to be generally slow moving. Some of them are likely to be obvious duds like the Tower of Pisa. People talk about high PPP, but I know that this rule doesn't apply in the world of Architecture (or in general for that matter). Sets like Villa Savoy or the Imperial palace might fare better. I do agree that the true architectural builds like Farnsworth House tend to be more popular, but Sungnyemun is not a classic architectural fanboy's set but has done very well. I reckon UN HQ may do well, but you would have to wait it out for a while in order to make any decent money off it.. Quote
whoisbiggles Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Agreed Architectural sets don't stand out as a quick flip. I personally like the Lourve and Villa Savoy. When Myer or TRU have a decent sale I am happy to pick these up if available. Quote
