ebay seems to be the only place to get an AT-At anymore. There might be a Toyworld out in woop woop with one. That would be your only bet for one at retail.

Don't worry about the Death Star. Personally, it has little appeal for me as it's too play set like and the minifigs look dated. In general, I stay away from really large sets (more than $300 a pop). They are riskier to sell and take up way too much space. Everyone has different strategies though, and I haven't seen how many listings there are for that one on ebay.com.au

I picked one up for 200, so only 31 more than retail from what I can see, which is alright.

I'm thinking you may be right, I like the 100 - 220 sort of price range atm.

where about in Western Australia are you at? Favorite hunting ground?

Agreed that the 100 to 220 range is more appealing...i might push it up to 250 i guess as some sets are up there.

I'm in Fremantle, you?

I'm tending to scour the online sales, and outer toy worlds etc, and just generally whenever I'm around Target, Myer, Big W, Kmart, I'll have a look in case I've missed something!

I'm slowing down at the moment though, trying to refine the strategy a bit more.

i am in belmont.

Tend to go around Big W, myer, target and TRU. Kmart less so as they seems to be not much discount there nowdays. Gone are the good days of the Haunted House at Kmart with a good discount.

I was thinking the same about this set but it's a hugely popular set even at it's huge price point, there's been 67 sales on Ebay Australia over the last 90 days. To make this number meaningful there were 51 Tumblers sold during this same timespan, 34 Ferris Wheels and 16 Pet Shops. It's widely considered one of the most iconic Lego sets of the last decade so I think it will have no issue appreciating. You can quote me on this but I think it will be selling for $1k within 3 months.

I realised I did mention the woop woop Toyworlds. Again, good score on your AT-ATs. I would have done the same if I had not spent all my budget for the year.

You know, Jan 10th will be exactly one year since I started investing. I reckon I've done well as most of my sets have gone EOL. To name a few:

10235, 10240, 75055, 75054, 60025, 60060, 60061, 75002, 31026, 21301 and 70411. Most of these I only have 3 or less of though.

Losers have been the ones I probably spent half my budget on all together: Ecto-1, PC and PS.

I guess the moral of the story is that the obvious sets like Modulars are no longer the sure-fire winners and it seems the level of hoarding is approaching USA level madness. Some sets have 40+ listings on ebay. For a small country like ours, that's significant.

Anyway, Happy New Year to all you Aussie Brickpickers. Happy investing (and most importantly building!!) in 2016 :)

From the sounds of it you've done well, if I had one wish it would be that I could go back and not buy some of the marginal sets (wookie gun shup, AT DP, The Ghost Imperial Snowspeeders, and the Hoth snow speeder) and put more of it into some of the more recently retiring ones...

I think 100235 and 240 will do very very well...

I've gotten a few Death stars, Slave I's Tumblers, AT AT's and R5's etc, with the crazy prices things are going for on Ebay I'm aiming to flip maybe one out of three to take the edge off of the cost...

The filling of the pool is fine I think, I'm not sure about you, but I think I can wait these people out if it comes to that, as long as Lego doesn't suddenly become worthless overnight.

I've had about 15 orders from them in the last year or so. I've only had one bad experience where the item didn't show up for 2 months and when it did it was pretty mangled. They refunded the whole purchase because it took so long to reach me so I really can't complain.

Apart from that items are generally packaged very well, maybe some slight creasing on some boxes at the worst. I would encourage paying a little bit extra on the postage to get the item sooner. I really don't understand their cheap postage rates, they would be making a huge loss on an item like the Tumbler.

Appreciate the reply, thanks JK.

That's a lot of orders. Do they have frequent sales or do they stock sets that we don't get here? Never considered them until now.

They have sales 2-3 times per year. Best buys this year were Lonely Mountain's at about $140 each shipped and Battle Of Five Armies at about $70 each shipped.

If you are talking about 75049, then this one has done really well. It's retired and selling at 80+

I missed out in all the major goodies in the famous Dropzone sale of '15, but they also had those for 35. I got three (and built one). I really had faith in this set, but at the time I didn't have any more capital to spend. In hindsight, I ought to have taken all 10 that were on the shelf and just C/C'd it. Oh well, hindsight is always 20/20

I got in at 69 dollars, so I'll have to wait a little longer. I'm thinking in a few years combining the AT AT and the Snow Speeder may be a winner.

Really starting to see the effects of that 'LEGO shortage' that was reported by news outlets a month or so ago.

Star Wars sets (besides the new Ren/Phasma, battle packs etc) of any kind are getting hard to find.

I've had a similar thing happen from them before, they most likely didn't have any boxes that can fit in 2 Tumblers or they may be coming from 2 different distribution centres. How can you tell the shipping method from the tracking number?

Expected delivery date and the cost has changed from the express cost, to the base one.

Yep, the shelves are quite barren on the northside of Brisbane at the moment.

They're quite barren down this neck of the woods also. Local TW is the only place that seems to have a decent selection at the moment (at RRP)
