stephen_rockefeller
I know a few people who do this......can someone explain what it accomplishes by saying no you cant see my receipt. Does it make you feel good? Like you have some power over the person who is doing their job? Honest question. In my mind their is no reason to just be a respectful human being and take the 10 or less seconds out of your day to show the person your receipt. Common courtesy seems to be a thing of the past. Im sure there are thoughts in someones head that justifies why they can't just comply with such a simple task. I would like to hear them if you guys dont mind.

Because in asking for my receipt to verify the items that I have in my bags, they are accusing me of stealing. It's insulting. Look, I have told walmart employees on several occasions when I saw someone stealing, including when the person was pushing an entire cart of stolen goods out to their car, and while that same person was in the parking lot loading those goods into their car. I was told that they cannot do anything about that. Instead they have instituted a corporate policy of harassment of paying customers. I do not blame the employee, but I do not comply. Is it really any different than standing in a line to hand someone a ticket to get into an event, on a train, on a plane? They are just looking at your ticket to verify you can exit the store with the goods you purchased.
lodibricks
I would think you'd look a lot more guilty avoiding them. I walk up to them with my receipt held up before they even ask (half never intend to check). If they don't want to check, I feel now they're judging the customers, picking and choosing who looks suspicious and would rather they be consistent. Side note, but related. With all the WM clearance talk, I finally found a Quinjet for $40. The lady checking my receipt yesterday says, "Boy, LEGOs sure are expensive!" We've all heard that 100 times, but it was funny to me 'cause it was 50% off.
midbenne
Ordered a Sand Crawler from Walmart, it came shipped in its own box so I returned it and tried again. Box arrives again, in itself with a big shipping label slapped on it. #FacePalm. Why WM? Why dost tho forsake me?! Needless to say, I had them give me a credit and then picked up a few things on clearance but I am still sans sand crawler...So I guess I will just wait for another 3 weeks and grab it during double points if possible. That's a good point, but I think that there's also something about verifying that people are going to the right places. People don't always pay attention, so if they didn't check your ticket at the theater, a child might wander into an inappropriate movie, or someone might arrive for the wrong date of a performance, causing 2 people to attempt to occupy the same seat. The same holds true for an airline ticket, also, dumb people might get on the wrong plane and then attempt to sue the airline for not delivering them to their intended destination. There's also a safety concern if they overfill a place, or a plane where people might wander into without someone double checking their tickets. Costco specifies in their membership rules that you have to have your stuff checked. You agreed when you bought the membership to have them check your receipt. There isn't even an implied contract where Walmart gets to do the same. If it were, then all stores would have an old person rummaging your bags. (And now back to complaining) I have been calling WMs recently after checking the faulty walmart upc stock checker and man, sitting on hold, communicating with some of their employees and just the overall trust factor leaves a great deal to be desired. It's not the 40 seconds for my receipt, it's the 15 minutes for the 20 people in front of me. Costco or SAMs can get away with this because they are a "club". Wal Mart has no leg to stand on. I just walk around them.

I live in a metro area of metro area of 6.5 million people and have never waited longer than 2 mins to show my receipt. Are you embellishing a bit? How would you know how long it would take anyway if you just walk out?

The wal Mart door people by you must be different than the ones by me, I always see very elderly ladies, that I'm sure are very nice, but also very thorough, that verify every single item. While I may be guilty of some exaggeration, I was able to watch the slow moving line while I was checking out and paying for my items in full view of Wal Marts camera system and front end personnel.
