Why is Bricklink so lax with product descriptions? Listing a set without minifigures or which is otherwise incomplete as sealed is deciptive and should not be allowed!

rage.png

Furthermore it messes up the stats, because they are included in sales statistics even if you select 'exclude incomplete'.rage2.png

Neither should listing individual items which are part of a super-lot below, below the actual price be allowed! At least there you get the option to exclude super-lots, but it is still deceptive for new buyers who are not aware of this!

This bothers me to end as well, but it's hardly Bricklink's fault, is it? It's sellers abusing the system. Or maybe not knowing the system (for your first example at least, your second example is obviously not due to lack of knowledge).

I agree it's sellers abusing the system, but BL does not seem to care. The listings stay up.

Here's one way they could fix it:

Suppose a seller wants to put up an item. If the selected price is significantly lower than the current average price (say 30%) a notice should be added automatically that the set is incomplete. If the seller does not want this notice to be added, manual verification by a mod is required. If they implemented this, there would be some additional work for mods initially, but most sellers would just give up on the deceptive tactics and list the item as it actually is. At least for new / popular items this could be a solution.

Good point. But BL probably won't do anything until enough people complain about it - and I don't think they check this complaint thread :)

More killings in Germany. Gunmen on the loose.

Hmm... "Gun legislation in Germany is considered among the strictest gun control in the world." What on earth will we do. I guess we should all just turn them in here...

I hate internet discussions involving gun control or abortion. They never yield anything besides impassioned divisiveness...

Right, so we're not going to have it here. And you can complain about that all you want... ;)

So you're making us abort this discussion then...

Yup. There has been mild success in having some political discussions, but I don't think gun control and abortion laws make the cut.

I see nothing wrong with the original complaint though.

I don't know if it's more disturbing that Dallas County Sheriff Valdez wasn't able to have a moment of silence at the DNC for the fallen cops or the fact that mainstream media hasn't said a word about how it let alone how disgusting and insensitive it was.

FOX talked about how disgusting it was....

I'm on chat with Amazon trying to recover my payment for Prime when it hasn't been 30 days yet. I joined on the 13th and then they charged me for a year on the 17th. Amazon, you said free for 30 days not 4 days...

I hate how much shipping costs can vary by distance. I'm in Florida so say for example, I get lucky on Ebay and sell a set to someone in Miami, it may only cost $15. But I may get unlucky and the buyer is from California and then it costs like $50 or something.

That's where calculated shipping comes in handy. Little more work up front but no issues like the above (unless you do free shipping but I typically compensate for those differences in the price - does help that I'm in the midwest though - not that big of a variation).

I've only sold like 20 listings on Ebay so far, and relatively cheap stuff, averaging only ~$40 each. I'm honestly a noob at all this. I've been doing free shipping on everything (just to skip any hassle), which eats into my profits. Don't know much about making the buyer pay the shipping cost. Seems to me people would just skip over my lots for those with free shipping.

Depends on the set. Some sets don't hurt ya too bad going coast to coast. Others cut into your margins big time. Best way to learn is through experience. It will cost you a few bucks but the knowledge gained will pay you back with dividends.

It doesn't help too much that all I have to sell is the cheap sets, so it's a larger percentage of any profit. Just graduated high school in a small ~10k people town. Only stores are 1 Wal-Mart, a (recently closed)K-Mart, a Wal-Greens, and a few dollar stores. I'm about to move to a mid-sized city though (with like 4 Wal-Marts, 4 Targets,  4 Toys R Us's, and 2 K-Marts), and get a full time job, so I'll be able to start buying some of the bigger sets.

^ At this point in your game, I'd certainly be seeking out Calculated Shipping. I was starting out a year ago, and have used Calculated shipping for just about everything. I've made ~125 sales or so. Things definitely still sell.

If you're selling smaller sealed sets, and have planned properly by reading these forums, you'll already have the boxes you're using to ship with. Measure one for parcel dimensions, then simulate a finished parcel (packing materials etc) with each set you're selling and weigh them... record it with your dimensions. Then just plug that info into the shipping information when you post or edit your listing.

Like Phil said, a little bit more work up front, but work you'd end up doing at the point of sale anyway (to print your shipping label). If you're making ~$40 sales, and paying ~$50 to ship to the other side of the country.... even if you acquired those sets for free, you're not eating into your profits man, you're eating into your original capital. Pretty sure that's bad for business.  Calculated Shipping ftw.

Only sell items that are small enough to ship first class...Problem solved.
