MarleyMoose
Me: "Have you shipped my Lego? If so would you provide the tracking number." Seller: "I have not been able to ship the package yet. Part of the issue is that PayPal will not release the funds from the sale and I don't have the money out of pocket to ship the package at this time. I apologize for the inconvenience. I will call PayPal again to see if they will release a portion of the funds." Me:

Your options are to either wait until the 28th of April when the funds will be released to me and I will ship them the fastest way possible via USPS or to request a refund." At least he seems nice. redghostx
I have very little patience for that level of unprofessionalism. What part of that response is unprofessional? It is another issue entirely if it is well outside the shipping window but this seems like an honest situation.

Sprocket77
Seeing the speed van when it's just too late to slow down. Day ruined. Oh and I agree with Migration, can you imagine a store taking your order then saying they couldn't afford shipping and you'd get it when their cashflow improves. kfishe2
Its like when a contractor needs your payment up front to buy materials to finish the job they are currently working on. Doesnt give me a lot of faith in their business model. And if they are an established seller why would paypal be holding the funds?

For some jobs the materials required are a significant chunk of the total project cost (think an addition). A smaller contractor might not have the funds to fork out $30k in supplies on a $50k job, especially if (s)he's going to get paid only upon completion. We're talking shipping fees here, which are either tiny (e.g. <$10) or at least less than 10% of the cost of the set. And if the seller ships correctly (i.e. follows Ebay/Paypal's procedures and ships to verified address), it is not like there is much risk that they won't get their funds. That way they can buy the material they need, do the work, get paid, rinse repeat for longer jobs. My complaint is rain when you're on holidays and trying to visit something that is outdoors.
