I haven't seen it for anything lower than at 10% discount in The Netherlands since I started buying Lego sets last August. I only have one, which I bought at a meagre 5% discount end of August. Then I thought it may retire any moment and I should get one asap. So if I could get another one with a sweet discount I'll jump at it right away! Not even as an investment but as a set to build myself. I even looked at used ones at eBay but they're hardly any cheaper (if you include postage) than buying it new with a minor discount!

Hi

I'm sorry, but this set has been multiple times below 65E in the Netherlands. (pm me if you really want one)

And in terms of the stack of T1 (Sozial), my course is diversification. People who have 'a large stack of DS' know what I'm talking about.

You can't own 25 of every promising set. Unless you're running a professional (Emazers like) operation and have the funds and guts to do so. I still believe LEGO can go wrong, sets can miss and 3D printing is a threat as much as the swings in popularity of every toy. Therefore stacks > 10 units of any set are pretty rare in my shop.

Something I can only agree to.

Interesting. So the "lowest ever" price listed at Brickwatch here: http://www.brickwatch.net/nl/set/10220/Volkswagen-T1-Camper-Van.html is not really the lowest price it was ever sold in The Netherlands. I'm guessing you bought it at a store which isn't watched by Brickwatch? Or you had certain discounts you could apply to it?

I agree with you about diversification. The most of a single set I have is 3. And I also don't buy sets I don't like or rather sets I wouldn't want to have for my own collection. So if a set fails to appreciate over time, I still will have fun opening and building it for myself. :-)

I did this with only very few sets (buy sets that I personally didn't really like but in discussions here they sounded promising)... and NON of them have appreciated much! Not calling names here but SC I'm thinking of you!

On the other hand I'm full of hope for The Tumbler and The Helicarrier.

Well... the biggest difference to me was that till last year you could find and buy retired sets even after the fact. Now that is history. Only ToO was still to be found after retirement. And look at how it is performing already!

You are right Locutus.... the sets that are cheered here mostly turned out to be disappointments.

I guess that you should trust your guts and consider the fact that if YOU like a set, many others will like it too. So if you like a set so much you'd want to have it for yourself, buy multiples of it because there's a market for it after the set's retirement!

I really did not dislike the Lone Ranger sets.

The only set I bought after it was already retired is the 10226 Sopwith Camel. I managed to get two of them for €93 each (plus €12 shipping each, so that makes it €105 each including shipping). Compared to the Dutch MSRP of €99,99 that's hardly above the MSRP which I consider a good buy. I know the SC hasn't appreciated at all here in Europe, but it might still do so a few years down the road. And in the mean time, I do like this set a lot and will probably build one of them just for myself. :-)

Meh... that's the problem I don't even like SC! xD

I bought Imperial Shuttle after EOL and FB... Imperial Shuttle doubled in that time! And FB well... I guess it's okay...

also bought the black pearl after EOL... not such a brilliant idea... still made some money.

The UCS Imperial Shuttle is a really nice set indeed and getting it after EOL with just a minor mark-up (assuming here) was a sound investment!

I just built the Tydirium Shuttle last week. Of course it's not as great as the UCS version, but still a nice build and quite playable for kids. I could see this set appreciate well after retirement ... some day. Still a long way off but I'll be on the lookout for large discounts on this one to build up some additional boxes.

Actually yes, I got one mint one for a minor mark-up and a used one together with a TIE-Fighter for the price they both would have been new! So I got something for myself :-) AND something to sell ^.^

On T1 Camper, you can buy it today in Belgium at Collishop (ref. Neosphinx pointer) at 84.99E - 15% (discount) - 5% (vouchers) = 68.63. Pretty close to the 65E I mentioned already.

On the first 2 days of the seasonal promotion that is running now, the set was discounted on a red price at 73E. Personnel at Collishop isn't always aware of the interaction between red prices (adjustments between competing shop promotions) and their additional actions. So if you were sharp, you could have gotten that set at 73*0.85*0.95 = 59 euros. They have adapted when they saw the massive amounts of orders coming in. Belgium has become rather efficient unfortunately. (cfr remarks from Ciglione and Neosphinx who surely add to this efficiency :-))

And just to finish on the T1: this set is hugely popular. TLG has changed policy with these sets. There's no more 'automatic retirement'. So I will abstain predicting when this set would disappear. For now, it's all over every shop. Massively stocked.

-> I flipped some SC to resellers rather fast after EoL this year at my target margin. I'm not buying this one - I'm selling it.

-> My Lone Ranger sets are all sold except the Cavalry set of which I have a couple left. Mostly to part-outers in the US. Strange how I thought the smaller sets and the train would go fast, and in the end I got only half a prediction right

-> I'm stuck with some Friends sets I have a hard time unloading. My mistake for getting drawn into Friends as much as my daughters ;-)

In general, I don't agree with the statement that people give 'wrong' advise. My impression is that this community is full of good intentions and ideas, but probably too passionate on Lego to be sufficient skeptical on some sets. In my experience, passion can translate into bad investments. If you read all the blogs and remarks of the founders of this site, there's enough baggage to make some wise decisions.

Note also that TLG warned on a lack of production capacity this year. They will not be able to fill all the Xmas orders! So there could be a good 'flipping' season for those who are willing to put some sets for sale. From 2016/7, lots of new capacity will come online, and the market risks to become oversupplied. So I'm trying to sell more than I'm buying.

Best regards

Living too far away from the Dutch-Belgian border, buying from Collishop is not an option for me. My only options for buying below MSRP are discounts at Dutch stores, Amazon.de or eBay. Since I only started last August, I'm still quite new here and still figuring out where and how to get the best discounts available to me. ;-)

Does collishop post Europe wide or is it strictly Belgium?

Not exactly 5% but close. Initial price I bought them was 74.76 at 15% = 63.5€

I wonder how many of those T1 and MC flew out of collishop during these days

That is, before they changed the policy so that you can only order max 2 of the same set. I saw the change this morning. I've placed an order last Saturday for 6x Mini and 4x T1. Received a e-mail about this reservation with confirmation. Nevertheless, I've received also an e-mail this morning that reservation has arrived at pick up point, with a '(2)' behind the Mini and T1. I hope that they didn't change my order... Guess I'll see this Wednesday, when I pick them up..

You get them automatically if you subscribe on their website. (www.Collishop.be)

They are to be spent Q1 2016. (so it's like VIP points - you buy stuff to get discounts later)

Obviously, I know about the "VIP points", but that's hardly the same as -5%, is it? ;)

You get 1 point for every €10 you spend and you need 12 points to get a €5 coupon. So basically, if you spend €119,99 you get 11 points which in the end are worth nothing.

That's wrong. You get 1 point for 1€ you spend.

100€ = 100 points (your example 119,99 euro = 119,99 points... yes that's how they do it)

100 points are worth 5€ (this is exactly 5%) (double VIP means 1€ = 2P --> 100€ = 200 points --> worth 10€ so it's like 10% during double VIP time).

This is only a "kind of" discount, but I like to collect the points and spend them on other sets ;-) or the pick a brick wall. It hurts less if I order online pick-a-brick and pay with my points ^.^

So in your example if you spend 119,99 you get 11 points (and 0,99 that will add up later on with your next purchase) which in the end are worth... LEGO products purchased in a LEGO store that are priced 5€. You can add these points to your normal purchase and spend 95€ instead of 100€ but you won't get points for that purchase so I would advice you to collect them till you can buy something (maybe adding 5€ of real money instead of the other way around ^.^).

I think being in a forum that mostly deals with LEGO as an investment it is safe to assume that these VIP points are NOT worth "nothing".

But please feel free to collect the points either way and since you feel that they are "worthless" you can give me a message each time you have about 1000 points or more and I'll be happy to spend these for you ;-)

Did you even read the conversation I was replying to? :)

I know how Lego VIP points work. I was talking about the Dreamland reward points.
