Quacs Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Check out this lot on eBay - it's actually offered for a really good price (I used the new lot calculator and came up with approximately $22K in value counting only one of each set (and there are definitely some with multiples). You will need a LOT of time to sort, though: Ridiculous eBay Lego Lot If you decide to buy it, click this link and BP will get a nice kickback from eBay. 1 Quote
terrymc4677 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 That's very tempting, and not too far from me. I could drive down and pick it up to save the shipping costs. I'll keep an eye on it and maybe send an offer if there are no takers. Quote
Quacs Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 What a phenomenal lot, but man that would take me YEARS to get through! Quote
terrymc4677 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 What a phenomenal lot, but man that would take me YEARS to get through! Yes, it is a lot of work in all of those totes. I am still working on a star wars lot that I bought a few weeks ago. It was only 27 sets and ii still have a ways to go on it. Still very tempting though. Quote

That would take me a LONG time to get through the whole lot. Now I wish I had $7,500 laying around so I could spend it on this lot. Quote

MartinP Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Time to shake the cushions! Yes! I found 2 cents so far. Only need $7,499.98 more. Quote
brickinfinite Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 That's also within "reasonable" driving distance from me. I, too, will keep an eye on it. Thanks for the heads up! Quote
sadowsk1 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Auctions like this will never cease to amaze me. When I look at a lot like this I almost figure it's worth that much less for being such a mess. I can't imagine it would turn a profit if you had to pay a person even minimum wage to sort all those Lego into something even mildly organized. Quote
Darth_Raichu Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I pass on the ground of self preservation. The wife would kill me if she sees 14 bins full of LEGO being delivered to our place. Quote

I got closer to 14k in a hand calculation...could indicate some trouble with the lot calculator. It will likely be far less than 1200 to ship. Quote

The lot calculator is fine - it was definitely user error on my part with the $22k valuation. 1 Quote
mikeur86 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 The price per pound is in the 6.00 range(without shipping) which to me is a steep price at 800lbs. Sorting through that many sets is not ideal but if the price was say 5.50 a lb then this would be steal on that alone. Quote
Sauromosis Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 This guy owes you a set Quacs...the "views per hour" have jumped up considerably. I've been watching this since the first listing, it has been relisted three times. He isn't very open to counter offers. Quote

The rest of the sets should add to about $14,000. Quote

I can understand getting rid of a collection that great would be difficult, but if you're going to provide the "Best Offer" option, you have to be prepared for the lowballing. Quote

The description claims the pieces are sorted by color and type, although the pictures don't clearly show this. If all of the pieces were sorted accordingly, would that change your valuation, or would you still only consider it investable at $5.50/lb? I actually don't deal in bulk lots, so I'm curious what you think. Quote

Quacs Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 Not yet, but maybe in six months when my bankroll is higher. Right now, I have several lots that await their BL orders before listing. Quote

Sauromosis Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Or bring in a third buyer? 2500 each of us? Quote
Quacs Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 If I lived closer to IL we could go half and half! It actually sets up to be a good "split" lot. The biggest logistical problem would be figuring out how to split the pieces so that both/all parties would get their respective sets. For the record, I am definitely not intersted in this lot - I just think it's an amazing collection that could make someone some good $ and occupy fourteen years of their life . Quote
Fcbarcelona101 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Oh man I know! I have bought smaller lots and would not seriously think about getting one where all pieces were mixed together... that's not my thing lol Quote
DoNotInsertIntoMouth Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I actually saw this on Ebay weeks ago - it was listed for 10K. If I had the capital available I might go for it. Lot of money to be made- plus after you make the money you could probably keep the best sets like the 10129. Quote
@rtisan Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 That`s a lovely lot. If only I had the capital and lived in the states.... Quote
