Ronda Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Yep, finally! It will open this coming Friday, September 20. It's at Fashion Mall in Salt Lake City. Some information from utahlug.org: "The LEGO store will open for it Quote
Etan Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Yep going on Saturday. If we flip the mini Lego store and with the double VIP promotion, its free Lego. Quote
Etan Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Did anyone go today? How busy was it? I'm planning on going tomorrow and want to know when I have to be there to be one of the first 300 people. Quote
kerrmando Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Excited for you guys! Central Virginia still needs one hah Quote
Etan Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 I was there today. Didn't know so much people in Utah liked Lego. Hardly made it to be one of the first 300, it was packed. Only got two of the Lego stores though, didn't feel like dropping more than $200. Now back to building the 10143, its a tough build. 1 Quote
Ronda Posted October 6, 2013 Author Posted October 6, 2013 How do you like the store? How does the pick-a-brick part look, anything nice there now? Quote
legomaniac85 Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 People started lining up at 5am on Saturday. The mall limited the number of people allowed in the store and broke it down into groups of 60. I got there at 830 and was in the fourth group. I was able to pick up 2 store models but I was lucky to get them at all, even being among the first 240 people In the store. The employees were not limiting the number of transactions per guest. I saw the guy next to me do 5 transactions of $100 one after the other on the same VIP card. My cadheier forgot to include the model I my friends transaction and charged me the $14.99 for the model, the manager fixed it when I pointed it out but it makes me wonder how many people didn't get their models or got charged for them. On the malls side of things they had a good idea handing out tickets in groups but the instructions for how to get a ticket and then where to wait in line were not clear leaving many of the customers angry. They put the registration table behind the master builder stage at an in incident entrance to the mall and had nobody near the store directing people, just a long winded sign. They were also not allowing people to wait around in front of or next to the store (they were hoping we'd spend money at the other retailers.) Over all it was a good experience for me, reminiscent of the Beanie Baby days of waiting in line for hours when a shipment arrived. I was on my way home by 11:00 with my Winter Village Market, VW, and my store models. I wish I was able to go for the minifigure set today. Hopefully they'll open another Utah store someday! 1 Quote
Ronda Posted October 6, 2013 Author Posted October 6, 2013 Thanks for sharing your experience! Yeah, I never thought Lego is that popular here. Also never thought Utah is so wealthy, as soon as stores do 20-30% off set disappear right away ) If this store does well, maybe they will think of one in Provo or St George? Those areas are growing well. I'm kinda surprised there is no Lego store in NV. Quote
CelesAurivern Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Good grief, people! Doesn't anyone ever take pics anymore? Quote

A good portion of the state in desert, government owned, or it is a ghost town. There are Lego stores in areas that have a lot of people and is a developing area that may have potential customers. MartinP Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Yeah, especially LV )) I was in Las Vegas a few years ago and all I saw was casinos and hotels. Quote
Ronda Posted October 6, 2013 Author Posted October 6, 2013 I was in Las Vegas a few years ago and all I saw was casinos and hotels. Sure, as a tourist)) I visit friends there every year. Henderson grows crazily, metro area now is over 2 mil people not mentioning visitors. That's not much smaller then SLS metro. Quote
Etan Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 It would be awesome if the put one in st.George. Then I don't have to fly to SLC to get some Lego. I bet within the next two years they will put one in downtown Vegas. There's too many old people here in st.George for there to be a Lego store. Quote
raidermab Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Anybody else been to this store. I am from UTAH and wonder if it is worth going to. Any interesting things? How is the staff? Thanks for any input. Quote
citymorgue Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I've been there a couple of times actually. I managed to be there on Sunday and recevied the minifigure package that had painted on there Murray store opening 2013 or something along those lines. If I remember I'll post pictures of the special package. It's actually numbered to 400. Overall the store was pretty sweet. It actually helped fuel my rekindling of Lego after completely forgetting about it for a good solid 10 years or so. The staff was very nice and helpful (with the couple that I managed to interact with.) It was crowded not only the first day I was there but the couple of subsequent visits. I live near Hill AFB so it's about a 45 minute drive from me, so close enough to make the trip instead of shopping on the lego store. Plus I hate waiting for shipping! Anywho, I almost find it interesting in the Mall they did place it in, but I believe that it's central enough to draw in Utahns from all over the place. I'm more shocked that Utah even gets a store honestly. But then again, with the HUGE children population it only kinda makes sense. All in all, it's a nice little store with a lot of variety of choices, and beats the hell out of shopping at TRU with their ridiculous mark ups and other stores often limited selection. I don't have the picture of Fry shouting take my money, but that sums it up for me!!! Quote

I wish I could go back there one day, maybe they would have a Lego store there eventually if there is enough people. Quote
Anakinisvader Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 I'd love to be there for a grand opening of a LEGO store. I will be sure to bring my mace. Quote

I'm more shocked that Utah even gets a store honestly. But then again, with the HUGE children population it only kinda makes sense. I'm shocked that there was none till now, 'cause Utah does have many kids Any way, I went to Fashion Place today. It's cute little store, I expected somewhat bigger with more displays and kids-play-areas. Not crowded, but it was Wednesday about 2p.m. Hope they have more visitors on week-end. Really nice people working there, I've chat a bit with a lady of my age. PaB wall - nothing really interesting now, mostly 4x2, 6x2, 8x2 blocks of all colors, several bins repeat each other, top rows unavailable but I imagine it's more of the same there. I picked a large cup any way just for being there )) $16.01 with UT tax. I'll post a picture a bit later. "Make your own minifigure" station is neat, but it's not a great deal - 3 for $9.99. They also have polybags, keychains, minifigs series 11, all current "hard to find" sets I could think of, plus all "normal" sets of course. 2 or 3 small square tables are there for kids to play. Several kiosks at Fashion Place are selling minifigures now too ) But yeah, I wonder why the Lego store is there and not somewhere downtown. Sears closed at Fashion Place, wonder how the other stores are doing there. Here are some phone-photos. Quote
raidermab Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 thanks for the info will have to check it out Quote
Ronda Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 Here is what I grabbed from PaB, I'd say it's 2/3 of all they have there. There were also some 2x4 light blue, orange and light green blocks I didn't pick, also red plates 6x8 I think, not sure what else... May be that's it. Quote

Sears closed at Fashion Place, wonder how the other stores are doing there. I've wondered myself why exactly it was placed at the Fashion Place mall. I had been there a few times before ever knowing the Lego store was there, and it just felt a little 'douchy' (is that word allowed? If not, Mod please remove). It's quite a high end mall with really expensive fashion stores and other places that tend to have products out of range for your normal middle class family. I have a feeling though that it was placed there mostly because of the location in the SLC area. One thing I would like to point out though, is that even though it's 'small' compared to some other stores in the mall, the walls are all tightly packed with legos from the floor to the ceiling. I will be back there next thursday though purchasing another few hundred dollars worth of stuff to take advantage of the double points and free set while I still can. Quote
