weakside Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Buying or selling...just curious what other members have forked over or received. Cash is king. Any interesting or memorable stories? I'm a small time investor/flipper so selling 2 mint Crawler 41999 to a local buyer (kjijij) gave me $1000. By far my highest cash transaction. Without fees I thought it was good enough flip...but part of me did want to keep one in case the value climbs to +$1000 range and have something pretty exclusive brand new, mint and unopened. Oh well, it was fun having it for 2-3wks Quote
Etan Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Tomorrow going to shell out $400 for a new imperial shuttle and a QAR. It will be my first Craig's list transaction. Quote
Black_towr Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 I sold $4200 worth of 86-87 Fleer basketball cards to Mr. Mint Al Rosen. Not sure if we have any sport card guys in here or not but if we do i'm sure you've heard of Mr. Mint. Quote
DoNotInsertIntoMouth Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 $500 is the most I have ever done. Quote

I think as long as you meet in a public place where there is a lot of foot traffic you'll generally be fine. Once I was selling my Galaxy Nexus to another CL member inside the subway station. I was in my sweats and a big hoodie and my wife's friend passed by going home from work and thought I was dealing drugs. Quote
Junta Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 The sale which got me started in Lego investing was also the largest cash amount exchanged in person. I sold an open and used Cafe Corner for $1040CAD. We met in a public place at the mall, he paid with brand new $100 bills, and after the transaction I made a bee line to the nearest bank to deposit the profits. :-) Quote

Well, you'll have to settle for a sports card gal, but I sold my "pull of a lifetime" 1 of 1 quad cut auto from 2005 Ultimate Signature Edition of Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Don Mattingly, and Derek Jeter to a guy for $7500 a couple of years ago. That was VERY hard to part with! Quote

I don't know the latest values/stats but assume that's a pretty good value especially being a new imperial shuttle with the QAR. Nice pick up...hope the deal goes through as planned. Good luck. Quote

I was in my sweats and a big hoodie and my wife's friend passed by going home from work and thought I was dealing drugs. Thanks. Like most/all of us...really wished I got 1-2 more. Sad to think I didn't even ordered online and my wife was with me shopping at the mall on 'official release day' and easily could of went into the Lego store and bought 1-2 herself lol. A hoodie gives off the wrong 'impression' I guess unless you're jogging outside in the cold. Can be a sensitive topic I'm sure with that big criminal/legal case in the US. But it's soooo comfortable. That's my go-to on casual Fridays in the fall and spring haha. The sale which got me started in Lego investing was also the largest cash amount exchanged in person. Good you deposited the cash instead of buying something just for 'kicks' at the mall. I'm not a true collector so I can't really spend that kind of cash on toys especially for ONE item. To each their own...money comes and goes right, and you can't take it with you forever Quote
weakside Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 Do cars count? If so, then over 5k several times. haha, I thought it would just be about Lego products...but seems like others have some cool stories about sports cards as well. Well, you'll have to settle for a sports card gal, but I sold my "pull of a lifetime" 1 of 1 quad cut auto from 2005 Ultimate Signature Edition of Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Don Mattingly, and Derek Jeter to a guy for $7500 a couple of years ago. beeblet65 Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Watches! - Sold my $12,000 rolex deep sea in person and took cash Quote

Grolim Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Took $15k cash for a car once. For Lego, it would be my 10179 that I paid $2k for. Quote
seapotato Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Wow that's impressive. The most I've ever received was probably about $500, selling a new phone. Quote
Coneil21 Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Made my first CL sale today. Got $750 for my son's bed. Kind of boring. More interestingly, but not a sale, I cashed in for $9800 at a casino a few years ago. That was probably the most cash I've ever held in my possession. It was a good day. Quote
justafrog Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Made my first CL sale today. Got $750 for my son's bed. See, now I always found a stern talking-to worked out fine and I didn't have to go to extreme measures like these. Of course, I have girls... 1 Quote
rcdb1984 Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 I sold my complete nintendo power magazine lot issue 1st to the last. Only one ever sold complete on ebay for 850 or so. Quote

akohns Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Bought a car for $8200 in cash last year. Also bought tons of used camera equipment on CL. Last year I bought two different lots for over $4000 each. My biggest hauls of Legos have been $1300 for a collection that filled an SUV including the first three modulars, Effeil tower and tons more. This year My biggest have been $800 for a lot that included and GG and Grand Carousel and another lot a few weeks ago that filled my Ford Escape for $1000. Cold hard cash doesn't scare me. Quote

If it was me I would 'foolishly' try to make $200 more than get to that $10,000 mark...but I guess that's the limit before the casino has to issue you a tax form I believe. I know as Canadians gambling in US, if you get lucky with that big of score...probably smart to collect $9999.99 hehe. Which game was this big score from if you don't mind me asking? I bet $500 bucks on a single hand of bj once (from winnings) but I didn't win Fun reaction seeing the pit bosses come over thinking I was a high roller haha. Bought a car for $8200 in cash last year.
