DoNotInsertIntoMouth
The one bad thing about 41999 - was there enough to make buzz among non hard-core Technic fans. I don't know how high it will get because of this. Was there enough for there to be a sustainable after market. I think it will continue and get a little higher, but can it become a $700-$800 set when most never even saw it in stores? Its tough to predict. Most people may see the price tag and just decide to let it go. Plus we don't know how many were bought and are still being bought by investors. Because it was gone so fast, many people may just give up. I think it is going to plateau, and then maybe in 3 or 4 years, assuming Technic keeps growing, it will go up more. Honestly if it makes it to $600-$650 in the near future, I might take my $300+ in profit out and put it in another set. On the other hand, it would be about the safest investment out there since they aren't (we assume) making more.
weakside
I wouldn't be surprise if this set hits $1000 and beyond...maybe not in the first 12 months. I'm new at this but thought $500 range by x-mas would be GREAT but it's reached that already. Really hard to decide to keep longer term or flip on this set. Everyone has either own goals/strategies and for some newer investors/Lego fan, this set could be their 'top set'.

TheDarkness
It is hard to believe this was only released 3 weeks ago. My two copies arrived today relatively unscathed. One very happy Lego investor here!
TheOrcKing
It is funny because it feels like the set just came out a few days ago really which is kinda true. Jeeze louis, a $200 box of ABS plastic going for 2x-3x more than regular retail in a matter of days and hours. Doth mind boggled....

jaylay
my opinion ... of the 20,000 sets made, i wouldnt be surprised that over 50%, maybe up to 75%, of the sets went to investors. kiddies going to the LEGO store aint got a chance on the price and by the time mommy and daddy comes back, investors wouldve bought it all already. because of the lack of advertisement also on this set, the average joe doesnt even know it exist ... so they will do what all LEGO fans do when they miss out on something ... move on to the next hot LEGO set ... and there are quite a few out there now and coming out soon. i wouldnt be surprised also that within the next year or two, LEGO will release another crawler, this time more available to the masses and i wouldnt doubt it will be as decked out or even better than the 41999. now comes to you guys holding on to this set ... when is the time to sell ... the going price for 41999 will platuea. it wont hit $1000 ... dont be too greedy folks ... weakside
Some good points jaylay. There's also Lego fans that will pay a 'reasonable' secondary price for a set if they missed out on it. What is 'reasonable' is different for everybody. For some $1000 is nothing if it makes THE gift for a kid/adult. I can't believe buyers pay the prices they do for retired/rare sets. Nobody can predict but I still think there's growth to $800-$1000 within next 12-16months. All it takes is some more listings to dry up and sellers pump up their prices instead of being happy with $200-$300 profit...fine line between being greedy and leaving potential profits on the table. I wouldn't be worried about holding the Crawler for yrs to come. As a newbie investor/flipper in year 1 of this hobby, I cashed out and sold both of mine since I need some capital back but honestly think the smarter investors are holding at least one set back. Even if Lego makes another Crawler this one should still hold value. Prices will pateau and maybe decrease but I don't think it'll sink lower than $200-$300 profit margin so at the end of the day it's still a heck of an investment set if you got it at retail price. This post sounds like sour grapes. Lego already makes another crawler (set 9398). Its widely available to the "masses" as you say. Its been on the market for a little over a year - and it has been as cheap as ~$130 on amazon.uk. I don't see 9398 or any other non-limited crawler affecting the value of 41999.

XXXXXX will be the NEWEST crawler ... equal or better than 41999 get where im going ? masses will get the 9398 cause there aint no other choice! well a choice thats $200 or less ... what im getting at is there will be a better one ... it wouldnt be so wise to hold 41999 to the plateau alot of people are putting it at ... besides, the only thing i see thats going for it is the so called 20,000 limit ... if you guys can make the most by selling it now then do it ... $300 profit off of a set that was only out 3 weeks is amazing ... ive sold all my 4 that i have gotten to a tune of a little over $1100 so im happy ... i just dont feel that this set will get as high as alot of you are wishing. It looks great don't get me wrong and the exclusivity of it will get it to sell for quite a lot, but I very much doubt it'll go anything higher than 500-600$. It doesn't have the "Awesome" factor of a 10179 or a Taj Mahal or whatnot. LEGO Shop at Home in my country says they're sold out, should have placed a backorder on it but didn't....too bad though! theplasticmanor
I just took 4 friends to the Lego store in my area and bought 5 of these. Should I sell now or will they go up during christmas? I would like to get back at least some of my money since I am out $1000. How long until they go above this $400-$450 eBay selling price? weakside
Hard to say...just have to keep monitoring ebay/ads. I'm sure some flippers/investors will try to unload 1-2 now if they picked up a few and need some capital back. And some investors will hold until Xmas or at least next year minimum - long term. If you're happy and not greedy with min $75-$100ish profit on each set...now is the time to sell. Others may think you're leaving potential cash on the table by not holding it longer. To each their own...variation is nice, we can't have EVERYBODY flip it now or EVERYBODY hold it long term lol.
