never2old4lego Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Hi everyone. I joined this site about a month ago or so, and have been lurking ever since, but I thought it time to say hello. Seems like a very friendly group here. I've been collecting Legos for 5 or 6 years now, but only on a very small-scale basis. After reading some of the posts on here, it sounds like I'm still a pretty small scale player! LOL This site has a lot of great information. It's helped me make much better decisions on sets to buy. However, it's also made me realize that I've made some stupid purchases in the past (can you say "Atlantis"?) Oh well. Guess that's part of the learning process, right? Anyway, just wanted to say hi to all the follow Lego fans out there! Quote
chinothegeeko Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Hello and welcome! It's definitely loaded with up to date buying and selling info. O'lego Rules!! Quote
DoNotInsertIntoMouth Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Hello! We have all made some dumb purchases - I just purchased an Atlantis set yesterday... I like crab figures because I am a weird person. This site is great. Make sure you check out the Gallery, all the reviews on the site, and all the blogs. We all share information constantly. Feel free to ask any questions as well! Welcome to the site! Quote

hepcatpunk Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Not always easy to tell at the time that you're making a dumb purchase.....have a feeling there are many of us making dumb purchases today even w/ all the information at our disposal. Welcome to the site though! Quote
comicblast Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Welcome to BrickPicker. I've made some pretty bad buys too. For example, buying $150 worth of Heroica sets that were 50% off. I could only sell 2 of the 20 or so that I had. I returned it before my 90 days were up. Once you get the hang of things, it gets way easier, and a lot less returning. Quote
never2old4lego Posted July 21, 2013 Author Posted July 21, 2013 Thanks to everyone for the replies and warm welcome! Glad to know I'm not the only one that's made errors in judgment when buying. DoNotInsert...I've read a lot of the review and blogs, but I'm not seeing a Gallery anywhere. Where would I find that? Comic...at 50% off, I think I would've stocked up, too! Glad that you were at least able to return them. I was wondering if clearance items could be returned. I just bought another dozen or so sets today, all on clearance (only 30%, though). Quote
never2old4lego Posted July 21, 2013 Author Posted July 21, 2013 Sorry, just found the Gallery (duh!). Please disregard my earlier question. Quote
Grolim Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Hi and welcome to the site. We need more of you Lurker types to come out of hiding and start posting Quote
Ronda Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 However, it's also made me realize that I've made some stupid purchases in the past (can you say "Atlantis"?) Did you like it? Then it's not stupid Welcome to the site! Quote
Guest eightbrick Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Hello! Hope you enjoy the site, it's great that you introduced yourself Brick on! Quote

Anyway, just wanted to say hi to all the follow Lego fans out there! Welcome! Yeah, I wouldn't beat yourself over the head about a stupid purchase in the past...it's all relative anyway. If you really love a set and you buy it at MSRP, I don't think it's stupid at all, especially if its for your own collection. Quote
Guest eightbrick Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 From a collecting perspective, Atlantis sets are actually anything but stupid. Creative and inspired sets that are just plain awesome - and you can get them for rock bottom prices on the aftermarket. I can totally understand why you ended up with some of the sets. Has anyone else noticed that 2010 had so many investment failures (Toy Story, Atlantis, World Racers, Prince of Persia)? I'm writing an article on the year (along with a bunch of other years). Very weird. Quote
JoshTX Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Welcome! I'm in the camp that enjoy the Atlantis sets from a building perspective despite their investment woes! Good luck! Quote
mtmsix Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I used to be a lurker to, and I also just started posting. Welcome. Quote
TheOrcKing Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Welcome to BrickPicker, never2old4lego.I think your screen name is absolutely perfect for the site! Quote
never2old4lego Posted July 21, 2013 Author Posted July 21, 2013 Orcking...thanks. I'm not telling just how old I am, though! LOL Thanks for all the encouragement about Atlantis. Unfortunately, I was under the mistaken belief that all things Lego appreciate in value, so I did buy them for resale, but, oh well. It's not like I bought hundreds of sets. I consider it part of the learning curve. Maybe someone will come out with a new Atlantis movie and the prices for the sets will skyrocket. LOL. Quote

I consider it part of the learning curve. Maybe someone will come out with a new Atlantis movie and the prices for the sets will skyrocket. LOL.We would like to believe that everything Lego is worth something and, far as the bricks go, it is. Sets on the other hand can go down south in value for what ever the reason. With a growing number of contributing members by the day, hopefully all of us can help to 'iron out' what makes a good investment from a bad buy. Quote
