Thanos75 Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 I was able to pick up two Ninjago Temples at Downtown Disney.....all while sitting in a fire truck in sunny New Orleans. Brickpicker is the best. 1 Quote

Aw, come on man, you're smarter than that. Always accrue points during 2xVIP, burn them the other 300 days of the year 5 Quote

AirborneAFOL Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 You just wasted more time thinking about it than the points are actually worth. I know you to be a legit player in this game - so I couldn't resist the rare chance to bust your chops a bit over a rookie move (In truth, I don't doubt for a second you're well aware of the conventional wisdom and have your reasons however you spend your cash/points) 2 Quote
Rodeogeorge Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 ^ I empathize with this... Why burn points on sets that will see a discount? Doesn't that defeat the point of accruing 2XVIP? I do not want to open up that Pandora's box of a discussion... however, I think this is the question: Cue crystal ball: What sets will not get discounted? Assembly Square? Porsche? Or...Ninjago foam swords for everyone! Quote

I think a return on a Snowglobe will outweigh any discount we'll see on a Yellow Submarine 2 years down the road. 2 Quote

Or Friends Bumper Cars...I went back to the store and grabbed three large cups of parts. I'm focusing in on my MOCs finally. Me, I'm saving the VIP points for sometime soon. Either that Friends Bumper Car or the Yellow Submarine. 2 Quote

ravenb99 Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Snow globe crazy weekend. Bout 30 between store and online. Much easier in store with trains and advents still available. Good thing about down sales and less people participating. Stores are eager for sales. 3 Quote
landphieran Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Its hard to justify buying anything off SAH when Amazon and other retailers are running 40-50% off. Despite that I ended up placing some orders. Mainly with seasonal sets, couple doctor who's and 75087 Anakins Starfighter. Not too sure about the starfighter but it shouldn't be a loss at best. Quote
justapilgrim Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 snow globe is $60 on amazon. SAH isn't that foolish Quote

Tesco often allow multiple orders ;-) The 41106 Friends Bus still available for £8 if you buy 3. Just getting my orders price-matched now. The only problem is a 1-2yr hold while the QFLLs offload. Hopefully Tesco stock is now low and there's not too much out there. Customer Services called me to confirm that my order was correct, why wouldn't it be? This is the first of 2 similar orders and I've even topped them up a bit more this morning ;-) Due to the huge order, it has to be collected from my local Extra branch (not Express) and I've booked another large van for tomorrow morning. Hmmm... Bought by somebody who doesn't buy Friends sets ;-) No, I'm not flipping, I want RRP+ for these in a year's time - no rush! Edited November 21, 2016 by TabbyBoy typo Quote

Their strategy seems to be to squeeze Argos who have now partnered up with the Sainsburys supermarket chain. Every time there's an Argos 3 for 2 on toys on its way, Tesco jump in the week before with their own better version. All good for the consumer until there's no competition left. Quote
BMTHbuilder Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 I've been reading this thread. . Amazed at some of the Tesco discounts. If they're discounting some sets by 84% (with discounts and then 3 4 2) what would they be getting them from Lego for?! Quote

Argos squeeze themselves well enough with terrible stock levels and stickering and punting all the boxes across the warehouse! Tesco orders on the other hand are always massively overpackaged, which is fun. Was on break at work when I saw the HUKD post for the buses, don't normally order from my phone but by the time I had reset my Tesco direct password (they make you use a capital, a number and a some punctuation - seriously!) I managed to get 12 buses but in my excitement didn't even see the spaceports. Also got the last two Turbo Tanks and a Poe Xwing to go with them as they didn't have 3. Probably a good job I didn't get any spaceports, I mainly part out and do BL, don't really like selling sets. I'll leave that to Tabby! Quote
Voltron Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Smyths have started putting stickers on boxes when you do click and collect, however they seem to come off alot easier than argos stickers Quote
mipage Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Well I said I wasn't interested in anything Tesco had but in the end I did go for 6 x Poe's X-Wing (I didn't have any of these and £30/ea was too good not to), 3 x Spaceport 60080 (@£30/ea with quidco cashback which I'm hoping they might price match to the £17) and a bunch of buildable stormtroopers (75114). Left the Ecto's and Dr Who's alone as I'm at my limit with these already, but £22 for Dr Who I'd buy all day if my credit card still worked. Quote
