What Lego set did you buy today?

Hit the motherlode on Friday and just now getting around to talking about it. My weekly flyer for Real Canadian Superstore (a grocery chain that also has a toy section where I get my best discounts) showed select Star Wars and other sets are 20% off this week. On top of that, they were doing a no tax event so those sets would be 33% off (20% discount plus 13% HST). As I'm driving to the store I get my weekly PC points email which has personalized offers of bonus points (which you can redeem for discounts) based on my past shopping history (ie $2 off of milk, etc.). For the first time ever, I get a toy related offer (most of them are food related). On top of the 20% discount and the 13% no tax, I get $8 in points for every $40 I spend on toys. That's another 20%!!! So I get to the store and pick up a couple of random Star Wars sets worth $80 and figure I'll come out just under $40 total. By chance I see a skid of boxes and lego sets down the aisle waiting to be unloaded and walk over. And there they were - 7 Wolverine Chopper 6866 sets in pristine condition! I haven't seen this set on a retail shelf anywhere since February. I sold 4 of them recently for between $50 and $75 each. I do the quick mental math as a formality only because there's no question I'm taking them all. I get to the cash and it gets even better. Retail price being $25, they're on CLEARANCE for $11 each!!!! Plus all the above discounts!!! 7 of these gold mines at about $6 each will make me close to a 1000% instant profit at current levels. Best. Score. Ever. (For Me.)

Congratulations!

Bought another Power Armor Lex at TRU. Price matched Amazon at $15 - $5 rewards.

This is my favorite way to spend TRU rewards but this time it took them about 10 minutes to confirm the Amazon price. They even called the manager. V

That's good thinking right there. :victory:

today i took back 54 Homer, Bart, and Marge, Lisa, Maggies Flanderseses to walmart.

almost just walked out without even peaking  at the lego section.

went over and there are two brickin' brand new boxes of Simpsons minifigs which i haven't seen in a month.

brand new because I went through all of em' in 20 minutes and smooshed 6 Apus, Burns and Grandpas and boosting my total number of complete sealed sets to 19.

So obviously you see this set as having potential.  These are the first mini figs series I have bought.   I have 2 unopened sets and 2 opened.  I always think abou tbuying more since they are 3 a pack meijer.   right now I'm having a hard time selling them for 70 as in I can't.  Do the mini figure series go up in value decently?

i sold 3 sets early on for $90 but then the price dropped out.

even at $90 I didn't feel like it was worth it but those had the corner snipped open.

now i only have sealed ones.

i think  you need to hold these until at the very least, they sell out on LEGO Shop at Home and go extinct at retail stores.

then time will tell.

I think Christmas sales will have some prognostic value.

this is one of those sets you either believe in or you don't.

i am a long time simpson fan and am confident that i will get a decent ROI.

i am not chasing CAGR with this.

also i have already started building a position in Simpson Houses.

pairing these in the future with Simpson house will be useful.

i have also been keeping pairs of more common itchy and scratchy as these are just AWESOME.

especially scratchy.

if you don't like the simpsons, i'm not sure i would recommend buying 19 of these.

even if you do i'm not sure i recommend it.

either way my goal was for 20 sets and counting my own, i'm done smooshing.

You I'd like all you 'smoothers' to know that I think you suck and that you are thieves.  A random mini figure pack is supposed to be random.   When a kid goes and picks one or more up and buys them they are buying that randomness.   When you go in and cherry pick the more desirable figures without actually paying for the items, you are stealing value from the rest of the box by destroying the random distribution of those figures.

So stop doing this, or find a way to feel good about the fact that you are a thief.

Ha. I'd argue that most kids pick through the CMS bags, actually. Many parents too. Oftentimes, I see parents picking through bags while their children look at the LEGO sets.

While I understand your frustration, kids are just as guilty as adults on this subject.  I have never seen an adult smooshing CMF's but have seen many kids doing it.  I "smoosh" to build one set for our collection and don't feel bad about it all, because I know there is a good chance the person before me did it, and the next person will do it as well.

I have been to several LEGO stores and seen adults smooshing the CMF bags.  TLG must have been ok with smooshing, otherwise they would have asked the employees to confront those "thieves" :zorro:

I went to Toyrus, the manager at the customer counter was smooshing with her employees, At Legoland Carsbad in CA, I went to the counter and told the employee the few Simpsons minifigures I was missing, he smooshed and found the last two I needed.  I went to Walmart and one of the employees was smooshing the Simpsons minifigs.  If you don't want to pay the high prices on Ebay for individual minifigs, this is the only way to complete your set.

If a person finds what they want and pays for the item before leaving the store then how can it be considered theft?
