mscheaf
I believe the most obvious reason is that the new ISD took its place among the OT playsets. Same price category and similarly iconic. The simplest answer may be the best in this case instead of the far-fetched speculations about incoming products. In the not exclusive segment LEGO actually cares about sets competing with each other since they are not considered as collectible by the company. The people who really wanted that Falcon already have it. The parents who are looking for that kind of toy are probably indifferent between those two. Thus LEGO can reduce costs and relieve shelf space. Occam's Razor
IMDeus
@GhostDad I just don't see Town hall going to 2016. I'm betting two new modulars in 2015. One at the beginning one at the end

A good source told me there will be a new Falcon arriving next year, so out with the old and in with the new is the simplest reason I know to retire the 7965. chipbee
even if the frozen ice castle is true, it makes no sense for cinderalla's castle to be on a 1 yr manufacturing run. then again, i know disney likes limited releases (but that's DVDs). ...weren't all the disney themes to-date have a 12-18 month run (granted, slow sales were prob part of it).could it be that there is sufficient stock of Cinderella castle to last until mid of 2015 based on sales trend? Also consider shelf space limitation if Elsa ice palace is starting to sell.

You are only right if it fits into the same category. If it's a large one then just look at the X-wing.

Do you think this would make the current MF not as valuable with the new one coming out to replace it so soon?

Bold-Arrow
Do you think this would make the current MF not as valuable with the new one coming out to replace it so soon? Rumors have it that there will be a new UCS MF.. You still need a playset. It should still do reasonably well.

I'm thinking a new UCS MF will have playability as well and not be just a model. Maybe more Death Star like.

exciter1
In that case the current one will be trash. Lol Well, not everyone will shell out $400 for a MF, but and but, the aftermarket still might be limited for getting $200 - $250 for 7965. I haven't checked CCC, but I believe it topped that on amazon last year , so you are not wide off the mark
