I think I may have finally cracked the code or at least gleaned some insight into retiring sets using the new data fields Lego is now posting.  If someone or a team was given the assignment to add these data fields to a file so they can be displayed on the website but resources are limited they may have been told to only focus on sets that will still be around. Or perhaps they just haven’t gotten to all the sets yet, but I tested this theory with several “known” retiring sets and it seems to match up.

Here is an example not retiring:

https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/medieval-blacksmith-21325

https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/bookshop-10270

https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/1989-batwing-76161

retiring:

https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/dinosaur-fossils-21320

https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/corner-garage-10264

https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/1989-batmobile-76139

Interesting. Pirates of Barracuda Bay (rumored to be retiring) has dimensions but the Tree House doesn't...

to be fair 99.9% of info does come from LEGO employees.  Just depends on how high up they are and what their level of fucks given is.

Hi Everyone

Trying to figure out LEGO JW Trex 75936 is gone from shop @ home and most lego stores but is at plenty of places online

LEGO Disney Train Station 71044 is gone from shop @ home and in some lego stores and they seem to be the only place

they are temporarily out of stock.  both are sold out in Europe

Any chance we will get online restocks of either from Lego before they exit stage left ?

I am starting to think no they are gone

if you already hoarded and waiting...Yes there will be another restock

If you are looking to get...No restock, they are indeed gone

I have a Disney Train Station "In Warehouse", so they must have some ready to make available.

Anyone buying the Mario sets? I noticed that there are a number retiring this year but I'm unsure if these will be any good post retirement

To paraphrase Joe/Dan:

If you don’t buy them they will be Gold.
If you do buy them they will be turds.

For most of the basic expansion sets, I have a hard time buying in for resale even at 50% off. At 66% or more I'll probably gamble.

That being said, it's not retiring this year - But I think the sets that are more full fledged models, IE - The Airship and the Bowser Boss battle, have more potential. I think they are overpriced to start with (Licensing) - so that makes it all much tougher. But I think they look sharp and will have some demand.

There seems to be a slew of these out there, I think they will be relatively easy to find post retirement and on the secondary market and used, etc.

Those are my 2 cents.

I would buy them at a heavy discount only like a Walmart store clearance for example. Not 20%. There are much better sets and themes to buy in even at a 20% discount. Although I write this I flipped the first Mario set last Christmas after buying a number of them at retail and made some money. But that I think that was possible due to a combination of covid scarcity, Amazon FBA, “new” set effect and Christmas of course.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts. I thought they were very expensive and can't find them at a good discount. I'll keep waiting then

I have been buying roller coaster at 40% RRP, stanger at 32% off and pirate bay at 33% - they probably won't retire now ;)

Pardon my ignorance but can you share where the roller coaster is at 40% off rrp?  I’d love to get it for my collection but am yet to see it at a discount… unless I just missed it

Sold out doesn't mean anything this year. Lego seems to be still distributing sets out to retailers. Don't fall for the trap. Take Tie helmet for instance, Argos have just got it back in stock everywhere and it's been sold out for ages at Lego.

Agreed, still seems to be plenty of stock of the bus in other retailers

It could  very likely be from backups in shipping. If there are cargo containers stacked up waiting to be unloaded as we are hearing then these sets could go in and out of stock, back and forth for months or years.
