Yellow Castle Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 I pulled trigger at right time and bought few 10249s, they sold out early. Poe’s X wing hasn’t retired so far along with couple of others I thought would have gone (31052). Im disappointed at current Lego sale, only 10% off SW sets and thought 75098 price would have dropped earlier? Quote
Val-E Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 10249 is retired in Europe and Sold Out pending retired tag in US. A nice steady winner that will never be remade, right? 1 Quote

I consider it extremely unlikely that 10249 will be remade another time again after it was already a remake from 10199. Of the entire Winter Village subtheme, I think 10249 is probably the safest set from the remake threat! 1 Quote

Fenix_2k1 Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 (edited) Interesting that UCS Tie is retired but AoH has another batch inbound. Edited December 22, 2017 by Fenix_2k1 Quote
crayxlp Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 I refuse to believe that UCS Tie Fighter will not make just one, another "miraculous" appearance.. look at the Technic Xerion Tractor.. Tie Fighter is retired for like 2-3 weeks and then comes back available Quote
Val-E Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 21123 Iron Golem may not be done after all. Still available in US and EU, not tagged or marked down. Quote
Val-E Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 EU SAH sale has gone rather well with just 61 sets still available. By themes, Brickheadz are killng it with all 12 on-sale sets still available. Nexo is a distant second with 8. Those 2 themes are pretty toxic at less than 60% off. Best results from Architecture, Speed Champions, Technic and Minecraft whose tagged sets are now all done. Ninjago also had a whole heap of sets retiring and just the one left. Quote

Val-E Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 57 sets now. Anyone want to take a bet on which sets, if any, make it to 50%? My bet is 75116 Finn. Quote

Val-E Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 No, but Nexo powers and TLNM minifigs do. Strong candidates too. Quote

I thought I got it figured out.. umm.. So I take the bet: I think it will be either that Nexo powers set (or other Nexo gears) or Ninjago minifigs - before your Finn Figure.. And to make it a liiiiitttle bit more interesting, I put into "the bank" sealed SW microfighter 75160 or 75128 (both a little battered on one of the edges).. + free shipping around Europe .. Quote
HandyHand Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 Too bad 853443 - VIP Cardboard Name Plate doesn't count anymore, since it's been on 50% discount already for ages and apparently nobody is even remotely interested in it! 1 Quote

I would say that being at 50 pct off before the "betting game" started - disqualified it from the very beginning Quote
Shewie Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 (edited) I visited today two stores to get Architecture Studio, by miracle I found the last one in stratford. the current status in brand stores might give you better indication about current state of EOL status and potential resurection (if) Palace Cinemas gone everywhere Winter Toy Shops gone everywhere Caterham hoarded everywhere 10+ boxes Elves series almost gone everywhere Batman Classic surprisingly was almost done. Assault on Hoth isn't going anywhere even discounted Simpsons with 1cm of dust surface on top of it Louvre gone everywhere Burj Khalifa gone everywhere Tie UCS still available Winter Train still available Winter station still available Yellow Submarine overhoarded Nexo - it depends on set and location Xerion Gone everywhere AROCS still available Minecraft the Village still available hassle free Friends Escort Girls mainly gone Escort Superheroes girls still available. Val-E Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 (edited) So, 2 days into the sale and this is what´s left. All S1 Brickheadz - Turdiest theme of the year status confirmed. SW MF 75105 (1 day on sale but clearly overproduced) and Finn - my 50% off marker. Friends Performance School (1 day on sale and TRU exclusive that no one cares about), Bumper Cars and Puppy Parade 5 Nexo sets 7 Duplo Elves 41184 (always at least one stinker per year and this is it) 3SH Mighty Micros LBM Catwoman (a set so unpopular Amazon were giving them away) and Clayface City Buggy. I don´t think we´ll get more than half a dozen sets making it to 50% off, unless there are loads of returns. Edited December 27, 2017 by Val-E 1 Quote
Villager Chris Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 (edited) A little off-topic, but does anyone else concur that Lego have significantly cut production back during H2? Waiting for 50% discounts was the way to go in summer and autumn, and it often paid off. If production has become leaner, then surely the discounts will become rarer. Maybe 25 to 35% discounts will be new buy-in triggers. Maybe sets will disappear in 2018 without any discount at all. I wasn't here a year ago, so I don't know how the current market compares to 12 months ago. For me, it seems unusual that not one retailer has offered a 50% discount over Christmas, apart from one Friends lightning deal. Edited December 27, 2017 by Villager Chris 1 Quote
Villager Chris Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 (edited) "Finally, in some markets the reset entails addressing a clean-up of inventories across the entire value chain. The work is well under way.” https://www.lego.com/en-us/aboutus/news-room/2017/september/interim-results I guess the 'clean-up of inventories' means we will see far less discounts in 2018. So which sets will retire in H1 this year, and what will be a good buy-in price? Fascinating to see it unfold. Edited December 27, 2017 by Villager Chris Quote

We´ll know in March when the next results are out if sales have been better or they have made less. TBH 2016 was an outlier and in previous years the sales achieved their objective quickly, like this year. I think a lot of the slack has been takenup by TRU and the like who did their flash sales to move Escort Girls and Nexo. Quote
