Retiring Soon - open speculation

Recommended Posts

The R2-D2 has been out 2 years this month,Like I said before if the set is going to retire its usually at the end of the year, so the set is a good seller and if it is retiring it will be at the end of the year, so look I have 23 going for 30 or so but I see no reason to Panic, and I would rather go to the Lego store and pay the extra $8.00 or so tax then to order them from Amazon or Walmart as the chances are high that the boxes will be damaged. Do picking up a Droid once a month or so is a good idea as you want to have this set as a money maker down the road. Ed

Not saying that it is applicable in case of current sets, but were there cases with older sets, when even though they officially were EOLed at the end of the year (or very early in the year), they went into de-facto EOL (i.e. OOS at Lego SAH) in the middle of the year?

Grand Emporium just went from "back ordered" to "available now." Not exactly happy about this, as I have bought three and was hoping for them to retire :(

Oh but (sorry this should probably go on the what lego set did you buy today forum) I just picked up a Cafe Corner for 420$ from an old guy on Craigslist so that's a free 1000$ bucks right there. Steal!

Whichever seller has better feedback .

If the buyer plans on opening, they don't care about the box. But to each their own.

Your comment does implicitly indicate why the box is important... "If the buyer plans on opening, they don't care about the box." But, some buyers don't plan on opening (could be a collector, could be one of you guys buying a set after retirement to ride it higher, etc). I don't want to lose any potential market slice by having a bad box, however small a market sliver it may be. That said though, I haven't completely written off Amazon or others and will continue to buy there whenever the sales are good. And I've had bad shipping experiences from LEGO Shop at Home as well, so I tend to buy in person all things being equal so I can inspect the box, but will go online whenever the price is better.

I'm so frustrated with CL in Tennessee. Everything seems to be retail or scam/fraud. It's getting to be yard sale season, so maybe I can find something decent. It's hard with a 2 year old and a disapproving wife! Great find on the Cafe Corner. I'm working on that set, slowly but surely.

If the set is highly desirable and offered at market price, BOTH will sell. I will give you the one with better box will be sold 5 seconds before the one with crappy box. :)

True. Not much difference when it comes to a highly desirable set. Just paid $10 less for a Marina Bay Sands because it had a small rip. It was a $200 set.

Are they not releasing it in the states??

According to Huw on Brickset, no, I don't believe so. Only looks to be available in the Singapore region and in the actual hotel's gift shop. I missed this one and had to pay a premium to get one. If it does come to the US, I will be upset. LOL

I believe they were available in Singapore (at the hotel's gift shop and TRU) and South Korea, sold out in a heartbeat.

There was some info going around that a second run would be available worldwide.

Unfortunately, this was later denied and all points to the fact that they're pretty much done.

Wow that is a pretty healthy draw down. Not nearly as drastic as SSD. I am at 19. Going for 25 and then call it quits. Put my last order of GE from Lego today. I am hopeful that some of the other retailers will do their gift card promotions on the other exclusives. Tired of paying retail on these suckers. Keeps the masses at bay though so i will say that the no discount policy will help this season of exclusives, especially the highest priced ones.

With all the other big sets coming out soon like the Ice Mammoth Stomper and Flying Phoenix Fire Temple, I would think that is ready to hit the graveyard.

I'm thinking the same thing.  The release for this set really felt short, maybe a little over a year?  Wow, just checked Brickset (01 Aug 13 - now).

Walmart has sold out of GE again.... Not sure if it has any bearing... Sort of curious if this is the last run of them at LEGO Shop at Home and they will be gone, or if they are just about to come back everywhere.

Could go under what I heard...

My Lego employee volunteered that this is next to retire and they aren't getting any deliveries for the rest of the month at his store but that doesn't mean there won't be other shipments in the near future.
