Genuine question.  Anyone want to throw out some speculation why winter toy shop has not had the tag slapped on it?  Winter Train and Santa both have it (but I'm pretty sure in the case of Winter Train that means current production schedule is "retiring soon".... until next year).

I get why they're doing it - not really many surprises here (a few mind).  Probably just trying to overthink it but would have thought WTS would have got one.

What sells well enough dont need no label.

Well I thought that retired in 2011.

The only thing surprising about this to me is the fact that TLG actually put the label on the sets that it is retiring this year. The quantity of sets being retired is not particularly surprising given the numbers of sets available at the moment. For example, in most years in the past, there were generally only 2 SW battle packs available (4 when retiring sets overlapped with incoming sets). Right now, there are 8 battle packs available. The same holds true with the Great Vehicles series in the City lineup. For whatever reason, they put a lot of extra products on the market over the last few years and are now thinning the herd. This will present a lot of good opportunities for those willing to gamble.

Simpsons stuff still hasn't received any tags either. They must have a TON of leftover stock. Either that or I'm way off base regarding the popularity of this set.

If they had so much stock they would put the tag on to sell it.

Trying to find a full list on shop at home. Anyway to pull up just that category?

Search for "retiring soon" and then sort by age group to get rid of Duplo. That should give you most sets.

I cannot believe some of the items that are labeled retiring soon. There is so many!!! If there is a day after Christmas sale this year, its going to be one hell of a good one. BRING IT ON!!!

With the sets being tagged so early, the best stuff will be long gone before 12/26.

Making a big assumption there on the production of these ;)

Jokes aside I'm fully with you.  I expect a few clear-outs for double VIP/black friday deals.  First order snow-speeder and assault carrier to be in the 50% off come 26/12 mind.

Production doesn't matter a great deal.  For popular sets, demand will soak up whatever volume is out there.

Why do people think that TLG will be doing a 50% off on 12/26?

They will do a 50% off on the 2nd and it will be on all the already sold out sets, as usual.

Man, "investors" are skittish. Lego retires a crap-ton every year. This year, they've opted for the mind game of labeling most/all of the stuff on the chopping block.

Perhaps they have done it to help stores clear stock out as well. I am going to add up how many new sets are out in 1h 2017 and see what the difference is. According to Bricket it is 316, so basically one in and one out. Of course those include polybags, dimensions, freebies etc but doesn´t include the summer sets we don´t know about yet.

I only see 18 retiring soon in the US. Only one on the list I am interested in right now is the sand crawler :)

The US intern has Friday afternoons off so I expect it will get updated on Monday. SC is going, 100% sure but is a pretty sketchy investment.

Well, from previous years, Europe always seems to get the notifications first, which gives those of us in the States plenty of time to cherry pick the winners.  Last year, for example the AT-AT, Cantina, Lonely Mountain, and ISD's were retired in Europe around this time, which gave me plenty of time to run around to various outlets and cherry pick the best boxes and price match.  So, these lists are always a gift to those of us in the states.  No guesswork needed at this point.  The only thing left to do is gamble on what you think will be the winners, and I feel there will be a few on these lists, but not many.
