DoNotInsertIntoMouth Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 What's the lifespan of other LEGO Cuusoo sets, in comparison to the Mars Rover anyway? I'm also looking at the LEGO Shop at Home site, and I would imagine that any set with "New" still labeled on it wouldn't go straight to the retired list. That would be counterproductive to Lego, wouldn't it? Customers would see the "New" sign and expect it to still be there for a little while and purchase later... This is a thought that seems obvious, but a lot of times you have to think what it does to Legos brand to have limited production runs, exclusives, etc. It is just good business practice IMO. You have to keep people interested, on the edge of their seats, etc. Having limited production on stuff keeps people interested and coming to your sites, etc. How many companies have lived through massively overproducing items? Think about how bad it is for someones brand for them to have tons of the same stuff sitting and rotting on shelves? If I owned a toy business, this would be a big strategy of mine as well. Obviously having a good product is important, but things like this drive popularity. 2 Quote

Some people are going crazy for them. I like seeing the affordable limited edition LEGO-s, but I think the SDCC figures are just too much. They are very nice but that kind of exclusivity is an overkill I think. Quote

biniou Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Could the Rover come back again? Absolutely, we don`t know until Lego marks it "retired" and even then we don`t know 100% (Catwomen set last year). Maybe another example is the TMNT Robot baxter, showed "sold out" after a 50% sale (I got two at that price), and then some weeks later it's back again, full price (currently it's in stock in France). inversion Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Gets LEGO fans to Comic Con and makes things interesting Sure, but they are so limited that most of the fans attending often find it hard to obtain one. Especially that nowadays there are sharks visiting these comic cons for limited merchandise with reselling purpose. Quote
holleman67 Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Gets LEGO fans to Comic Con and makes things interesting Exactly, if it wasn't for the exclusive figures I would never step for in a comic con Quote
Bold-Arrow Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Especially that nowadays there are sharks visiting these comic cons for limited merchandise with reselling purpose. Lmao....isn't that what most of us do , day in and day out... In a minute I'm going to start leaving my business cards in the lego aisles :p Quote
inversion Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Exactly, if it wasn't for the exclusive figures I would never step for in a comic con I mean no offense, but living in the US certainly makes it easier. If I want one I have to pay the inflated prices on ebay. They are a very good investment for those who can get them, but there are many people who just don't have the opportunity to visit one of those events or have a friend going. As an investor I don't have any problem with them and I am happy for those here who can acquire those figures. However, as a collector, seeing cool but out of the reach items just makes me sad. Quote

In a minute I'm going to start leaving my business cards in the lego aisles It just hurts my collector self, but as I said, I mean no offense at people who just go with the opportunity. I would do the very same. The blame is on LEGO for me. 50-250 is just too little. About 1500 produced would be a sweet spot in my opinion. They would still retain their exclusivity but could be more affordable for those whose only option is secondary market. For instance distributing them randomly in shop@home Super Heroes orders besides the ones given away at the event. Anyway I don't want to sound like a whining kid, if this was my biggest problem in life I would be the happiest man on the earth Quote

Good call! Didn`t remember that one. Bottom line I guess is that Lego will do whatever, whenever they want with their product. All we can do is speculate without inside information. Quote

justgod Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 My guess - TH goes first. Hoping I am wrong. Quote
Guest davewager78 Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 TH seems the less popular set of the two, based on an entirely non-scientific reading of this forum. Maybe the price is a factor. This might influence the decision to retire it. I'm just waiting for my eBay "built once" TH to arrive before finalising my own opinion on the sets (built the pet shop in the last few weeks) Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker Quote
biniou Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 My guess - TH goes first. Hoping I am wrong. I think you are wrong, here is a table I made few days ago: '> As I said before, GE, then PS, then TH... It seems logical to me... Quote
DoNotInsertIntoMouth Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Unless they release another modular this year, I think only one will go at the end of the year and its probably Grand Emporium. Maybe a shot for the Pet shop depending on how they each sell. Quote
No More Monkeys Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Might be old news, but neither walmart, nor target have GE in stock... Quote
waddamon Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Target is new. Walmart has been this way for a few weeks. That means that TRU and S&**** are the last sources. Quote
MartinP Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Target is new. Walmart has been this way for a few weeks. That means that TRU and S&**** are the last sources. Until TRU runs out of stock, and then finally LEGO Shop at Home says that the set is "Sold Out". Then everyone will go into panic mode and the speculation will continue again. Quote

MartinP Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Wouldn't that be too late to panic? No. All the people who procrastinated on buying a GE because they said that it wouldn't retire for at least another year will begin to panic as soon as they realize that the GE may not be coming back in stock and that they don't have any. tguncurun Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 If you see TRU bumped up theyre prices on the SSD and DS.. so maybe they have inside info on both those sets retiring. Now theyre just waiting for the hatchet? Any thoughts? Quote
