Retiring Soon - open speculation

Recommended Posts

One interesting thing though. I was in the Lego shop in Westfield London and I didn't see any Technich Mobile Crane. I saw the Volvo set, but not the Crane. As we all know, the technic sets are quite pedictable and we're all anticipating that this one will be put to sleep soon. So if this theory of the software glitch that reveals which sets are next is true, then why was the MKII missed?

Where there is smoke there is fire. If the approval of a new production run has not been confirmed then SOLD OUT is the standard default when stock = 0

When there is a confirmed production run then TOOS plus date is used. Retired product, one would assume, is configured manually.

My guess is that PS and Kwik have no confirmed runs as stock is so high there is no need. DS, we suspect, is done so it´s the others we have to watch out for.

Because it will retire at Xmas and more production runs are confirmed????

Birds and Trevi Fountain stand out...

Birds maybe not so much..it is an Ideas set and was out of stock for 4 weeks recently. they then re-stocked with 500 units..maybe thats it?

Trevi Fountain is the one that really stands out. Has there ever been a widely released Architecture set that has been in circulation less than two years?

The Star Destroyer surprises me as does X-men vs. Sentinel.  They have only been out a year.

Star Destroyer might be phased out for the new SW sets - it hasnt had a restock since May.

X-men vs Sentinel is already retired in EU (it was discounted a few weeks ago)  - it has been discussed here that it is possible due to licensing issues.

Another development is that sold out sale items are now 50% marked down. The sale was only 30% off and items still in stock and on sale are only 30% off. I guess that means they are all gone for good like last Xmas.

This is common phenomenon (see what i did here) - during The Era Of Not Retiring Anything at LEGO Shop at Home in US, Jabba Palace went all the way to $27 while being in Sold Out

21016 Sungnyemun comes to mind.  Robbie House, and Burj Khalifa was about 2.3 years.

true. although this has only been out since June 2014 (in UK) according to Brickset. last dataset showed 186 units left although with the rate they are selling (2 a day) combined with the number of trans blue pieces maybe it is not out of the question that its not worthwhile for them to fire up production again.

60052 Cargo Train might, __MIGHT__, be done.  With the new one coming out in two weeks, there isn't much of a point of further production runs.

this would not surprise me at all. they were clearanced at 50% off a few months ago at the retailer that stocked them in Australia.

the big shock out of all these would be PC (295 units left) and PR (330 units left).

PS had nearly 1700 units and Kwik e-mart had 4000 (enough to last 6 months at currently selling rates). also makes sense that they did such a big run of Kwik E-mart and then will switch production to simpsons house (which currently is temp out of stock in US)

Who says that Lego is communicating true stock levels to their affiliates?

of course what you say may be correct..but from my brief analysis of the brickset data over the past few weeks it has been pretty on target with correlation of lego s&h behavior. eg with stock levels dwindling (to 0) in conjunction with clearance sales as well as switches in tags

True, there are glitches and sets have been declared SOLD OUT then came back into stock.  But I am going to tell you that the days of sets being out for a certain length of time are over.  Technology and data analysis is so advanced now that if a set is a poor seller and the numbers say retire a set, they will.

Kwik E Mart though? I'm calling glitch. The alternative is too frightening to even consider, for now anyway.

Yeah, happened before the other way round - final batch of galaxy squad in the UK all seemed to be XXR3 seals. Same with some current clearance sets in UK discount stores.

If they ship from outside they US to US I think they would have to rebox all the contents because of that whole parts/pieces issue that needs to be on the cover for US boxes.  I'm assuming a rebox wouldn't be necessary going from US to EU.
