Retiring Soon - open speculation

I appreciated hearing this earlier this year, even though it stung at the time. Now I only buy what I plan to keep unless the set is just trashed. I've had really good luck with that recently, surprisingly so. After putting myself in other shoes I saw how it really does put you in a questionable spot to return multiple sets.

It actually helps me quite a bit. Meaning that if I'm ever tempted to buy a dozen of a single set, but I have that feeling or false comfort that "oh I can just return em if it doesn't pan out" then that means it's probably not a good buy in to begin with. I was either hoping for a better price or an unrealistic future value.

Worst case is not that you can return it, but rather, most Lego sets will rise in value eventually so you just have to hold it until after it retires.

Is Skull Scorceres Dragon 71721 retired?

I don't believe it is, but where do you see that it's retired on Brickset?  All I can see are the availability dates on Shop at Home.  My guess is it's only TOOS and not OOS to be retired shortly.

brickset says the whole minecraft theme is also retired including all the new sets if you go by the availability at shop at home.  of course its not.  anytime a set goes oos at shop at home it shows up lego.com availability with a "final" date which is bs.

S&H is the last indicator of retired sets.  Curious why Brickset says it’s done.  Didn’t know Brickset was not reliable.  I look up things on the fly a lot when I’m in the wild

I just came across a target with a ton of inventory including retiring & 2021 sets

Tbh I can't remember and I can't seem to find the original article speculating this. It appeared on the box art of a star wars recent set somewhere...

75300 tie has death star II in the background maybe that's what the buzz is. Also 75301 x-wing shows the trench. I didnt read the article of which you speak though.

eventually it will be accurate - the availability just tells you when the last time it went out of stock was at shop at home which is what brickset is tracking.  for sets that have retired, it is accurate about the last date you could buy it at shop at home.

i scan upc with my phone amazon seller app out in the wild to make sure i'm not restricted selling something i'm thinking about buying.  has saved me several times from going deep on something .

Brickset says Razor Crest retired 11/2020.  I texted a friend who works for LEGO and they said, "Not a chance."

I don't know who is typing end dates at Brickset but I wonder if there is some manipulation going on.

Most of the time Brickset just copies LEGO Shop availability status & sets toos/oos date as an end of availability date in their databank.

Yes, it seems that the problem here is not BrickSet providing erroneous info but rather people using it not knowing how to properly read and interpret what the site says.  It's like a carpenter not knowing how a screwdriver works and then complaining that the screwdriver makes a lousy tool for scraping paint.
