Retiring Soon - open speculation

There is still hope.

Soon the 10 months Mars Experiment on Antartica will end. Twelve scientists who lived in total isolation for 10 months in base 'Concordia'.

They will have some pocket money to spend. So let's hope the Maze is retired before they are out.

They´ll be all over Nexo Knights at 60% off then.

What a tragic waste of an ideas berth

Don't agree with that sentiment. It is a cool set, something different. So what that it will only have had a short run, and might not have been a "classic" from the get-go. Ideas is where fun ideas come to life. Maze is much better than something like Exo-Suit - heavily horded by resellers dreaming of mountains of gold, with only display value and even then quite meh.

Maze > Birds. Discuss.

Yes but only because Walmart in the US has totally derailed this set.

Birds looked like it was going to quietly go away. Tons of Brick Pickers said they didn't see the appeal of the set. It was often panned on this site but with a few believers.

Discounted at Lego, retiring soon, and then poof gone everywhere. Nice and quick, nice and quiet.

And then it showed up at significant discount and for as many sets as you wanted for MONTHS on end at Walmart.

They're STILL available at Retail and limit 5.

Unreal how badly that home run investment went in the crapper.

Maze = yuck.  Just sayin'.  Every time I go to the Ideas site, there are so many amazing, awesomely detailed creations...  And we get a Maze doodad.  Great.  After Maze and Nexo Knights, and the Bionicle refresh, "new" Death Star...  I'm thinking Danish employment law just makes it impossible for Lego to fire the morons who have clearly established a beachhead in the Set Design and Marketing departments.

As long as you keep your mouth shut you won't get fired. No matter how you mess up.

Did Lego remove the retiring soon tag from winter train? I'm pretty sure that it got the tag with the other retiring soon sets.

Yes, they had - one of the LEGO store employees was really astonished about this fact because the train will surely reappear in the next winter season, so no need to buy it now...

I found it very hard to believe that they would retire it so soon, but was hoping it was true... oh well more sad news in the Lego world...

Winter sets aren't a really good investment in general. One always have to fear either a remake like winter toy shop or a relaunch like santa's workshop. But winter train is nice for quick-flipping with prices like on ebay right now.

i think winter sets are nice investments for people looking at possible retiring sets.  just like anything else, there is some risk (1 remake since the theme began) and profits (like most lego investments lately) will have less appreciation than years past.

the overall demand is there and should probably always at least "avg".  the winter theme appeals to folks who like the Winter season, holidays, completionists, etc...

I'm still looking for a Bakery and a Post Office  ..... so yes, people want these to complete their collection.
