Retiring Soon - open speculation

Recommended Posts

Sea cow was pulled due to costumer complaints , I wouldn't reach too much into it. Happens often with the large sets they sell. They have been doing a horrible job packing .

They had a pretty good streak going. I've received several big sets without an issue.  I hate to hear they may be back to their old tricks.

interesting thebrickfan.com has actually posted that PS is retiring soon:

http://www.thebrickfan.com/lego-creator-modular-pet-shop-10218-retiring-soon/

however I see nothing posted on any LEGO Shop at Home site, or any other confirmation. Anyone know how reliable their sources are? I dont general see them post stuff like this unless its officially tagged by Lego.

jeffprobst posted this yesterday in the PS thread, if you'd like to read...

By the way, check out the RI page for the blurb I mentioned a few days ago:

This set was overwhelmingly popular and is no longer available for purchase. Please check back for new LEGO

Lots of eol speculation recently, got me thinking if you could pick only one set right now and could find out what year it would go EOL for sure, what would it be? (I have no knowledge right now but was just curious what the responses would be)

Some choices would be

Death Star

Ecto-1

Ewok Village

Fairground Mixer

Imperial Hotel

Lonely Mountain

Mobile Crane MK II

Palace Cinema

Pet Shop

Sandcrawler

Sea Cow

Simpsons House

Slave-1

Sydney Opera House

Tower Bridge

Tower of Orthanc

Tumbler

Volvo 350F Wheel Loader

VW Camper Van

White House

etc.

Probably Tumbler or Palace Cinema for me.  I don't think PC is going anywhere but some rumors are floating about and if there is a surprise there I would like to know about it.  Tumbler I would just like to know how long I have to stockpile heh.

Simpson's House is 3rd on my list.  I don't really have a good guess in my brain on that one.

Probably Lonely Mountain as a risky gamble, but only if the date i knew it was going to retire was soon.

If said EOL date was comming up, then a short production run + limited availability + scarce discounts could end up being a profitable gamble.

Mind you this is only if i knew the EOL date haha, i would not throw everything i could at this set without knowing that.

I'll go with the Ecto-1 (21108). Seeing whats happened with BTTF and the lack of discounts it could be a great set to invest in if you knew it was going EOL soon. If its going to live on for another 2-3 years as the new Ghostbusters movies come out it would be nice to know.

Besides that I'd love to know when the death star was retiring. Obvious reasons and I only have 2.

Great pick!  If Ecto-1 is going by the end of this year I would put more money in it than any exclusive.  It's such a nice medium sized set that's easy to ship and store and widely available right now.  It has so much EOL potential.

EOL dates for the TECHNIC Crane (12/2015) and Volvo Loader (12/2016) are more or less known.

My personal choices would be Ferris Wheel, Ferrari F40 and Slave 1.

Any opinions on R5? I have three on order from TLC, ordered one each in Jan, Feb, and Mar, and the first one shipped today - exactly 60 days after I ordered it. Just low stock? Changing logos on the box? Retiring soon?

Date codes to the rescue!!!!!!!

These were out of stock from Decemberish till March 10th. They have now shown up at Lego.com, Lego B&M stores, and PERHAPS at Amazon for a blip.

How do we know if these were the last remnants or a brand new run?

Date Stamps 05R5 & 08R5 means the fifth and eighth week of 2015. That's around first and last weeks of February.

This means Lego knew they had a new run coming, therefore they let us place orders since around December, and once they actually knew they were on the way, they opened the gates for NEW in-stock orders around March 10th. As soon as they fulfilled the backorders, and a few hours of In Stock sales, they turned it back to OOS shipping in 30 days.

This may now indicate them knowing they have another run coming, OR it might just mean they'll take backorders and if they get ENOUGH they might do another run.

Should be interesting to track.

From this list, Tumbler. Hasn't been out very long. Second choice would be Fairground mixer. Also not out long, and possibly the start of a new series for AFOLs.

Not on the list, either Ecto 1 or Birds. Birds is my sleeper. Huge AFOL appeal, cheap, easy to store and ship. I see this as a $100 set within months of EOL.

DS easily. I only have one. I don't think I will buy anymore until panic time. A perfect world would be I know when it retires and buy 10 of them a month before panic time. But I couldn't sit on $4000 worth of those things indefinitely.

I think I'd change my answer to that.

I just want on DS for my son and I to build someday.  With the feeling that it will perpetually be there, it's hard to shell out the $400 today (since he only turns 3 this week).  I'd rather wait a little while more before picking one up (I have no desire to invest in this set), but if it's leaving tomorrow, I'd guess I'd be plunking down my money.
