redcell
I am with Neo on the above post. The shelf space needed for Jan. 1st's launch of the Detective Agency seems to have come at the expense of the Town Hall- not the Pet Shop. Mind you, some early PS acquisition is a strategic play but (hopefully) the signs do point to some additional time to acquire PS before scramble-mode is on. The same could have been said for the TH, however. I'm at about thirty percent of my acquisition goal for PS... hopefully the rug isn't yanked out on this set. It is not one to miss IMO. If PS has made it this far into the holiday season without going to "call to check . . ." or "sold out" status, it is unlikely to be retiring this year.
hkstrongside
I am hoping PS is on the short list. My investment portfolio is small and PS makes up a good portion of it. It would be great to finally have something that is going to start climbing in value, if anything, for my sanity! ha ha... I came to the game too late to stock up on TH and GE so I really missed out there. I did get a few R2-D2 so I am really hoping those get nixed too. I need to cycle my stock before I can start buying up again. Getting started in this is slow.

If I had to guess, I would say that you'll likely have to wait until sometime between late-June and early-November 2015 for PS to dry up and start climbing in value. I could be wrong, but that would be my best guess based on recent trends.
DenJ91
I'm not sure about the pet shop lasting much longer. usually they only have 2-3 current modulars available at a time. when the detective agency comes out that would make 4 if the pet shop is still around. i can see this holiday clearing out all the pet shops making it "sold out". but who knows. inversion
I'm not sure about the pet shop lasting much longer. usually they only have 2-3 current modulars available at a time. We don't have any precedent. Yet. Pet Shop may go or may not. Depends on sales if my insight about the new strategy is right. There will be no "usual lifetime and quantity" of sets, LEGO will adjust his supply to real demand. Won't hurt stacking up on it though, might be among the next ones in line to retire. When our nowadays usual GE, AA, R2 etc. finally go away that will be one of the best targets.
DenJ91
This is not really a correct statement. I said "usually". I don't remember in the past couple years seeing more than 3 current ones in the shop at once. But yeah, could be wrong. even if there are 4 when the detective agency comes out, I still don't see the pet shop lasting much longer. just my opinion though. there are much more knowledgable lego people on here than myself so didn't mean to throw bad info out there. I saw PS, TH, GE, PR and PC all in the shop at the same time earlier this year. GE didn't last very long, but then it was the other 4 all the way up until oct when TH hoarding began. Still have a steady 3 on the shelves right now with Detective Agency coming out in Jan to go right back up to 4.

makr
I just got 18 pcs of 4204 for 50 euro , they sell at the moment for about 90 Euro. How much potential do you think 4204 has? Where have you gotten it for that price? I was thinking about buying 2 and trying to partially automatize it.
sroster
OK. I just went to a Legoland Discovery Center that is not my home turf (visiting the parents) and saw some crazy stuff. They have put little signs up all around the store advertising what sets are retiring at the end of 2014. I'm not sure if this is just pure speculation by them or official from lists or maybe it just means they can't order them anymore? No signs for exclusives, they were up per section (ie, Friends, City, Superhero, Star Wars, etc). I'm terrible at knowing set numbers so here goes (maybe no surprises I dunno): Lego Architecture being discontinued in 2014: 21002, 21012, 21005 - looks like ESB, SOH and Falling water Lego city: 60000, 60006, 60054, 60025, 60021, 4437, 60017, 60061, 60022, 60045, 60056, 60020, 60008, 60058 Disney Princess: 41050, 41051, 41052 so BOTH Ariels? and Merinda's going bye bye too according to this legoland Lego Friends: 41000, 41031, 41007, 41027, 41013, 41008, 41028, 41004, 41005, 41029, 41006, 3315 Superheroes: 76002, 76001, 76003, 76000, 6862, 6860, 76009 Creator: 31013, 31005, 31006, 31004, 31007, 7346, 31002, 31008, 31011, 31003, 31009, 31012 Star Wars: 75001, 75022, 75004, 75019, 75000, 75003, 9493, 75021, 75015, 75016, 75005, 75020, 75002, 75017, 75018 I got pics, just too lazy to put them up now. ravenb99
Its an interesting list but it would just be ones they are discontinuing at Merlin based stores. It would have nothing to do with LEGO B&M or Shop at Home. Though most are suspected ones to be retiring through LEGO. There stock is actual ordered in through the order availability list so these were probably taken off the list as being able to order by there stores. That being said they could still find these in there warehouses as Helms Deeps keep coming in every few weeks here.
