stephen_rockefeller
Where did you see that Lego produces more of the smaller sets compared to the large or medium sized sets?
Ciglione
That is my impression and it seems logic to my humble opinion. People buy more small than big gifts. except at xmas time I guess. I have no proof. Just my hunch.
Simon_GM
Anyone know when or if the death star is retiring? Also, tower bridge EOL date?

chillmodious
1. Yes, definitely retiring one day. 2. No.
@rtisan
First off, Welcome to the site! Secondly, for future reference, no one here will be able to tell you an EOL date for any set. It isn`t public knowledge, and only those who work for Lego higher up in the chain know that info for a fact. We can only speculate based on the market and availability of a set. There seems to be a rumor going around that DS will retire this year, I personally don`t think so. There is no real reason for Lego to do it, unless they release another UCS set. They did recently with the Sandcrawler, but I still don`t see it leaving just yet. End of the year at the very earliest, but I don`t think so. Tower Bridge is possibly on the way out, and it`s definitely going sooner rather that later, but probably another year. That`s one I`d invest in now if you are interested in doing do, but I`d wait on DS for now. If you wanted to buy into that one, May the 4th or double VIP in April would have been the best times.
ISO8T0
Got conformation via Lego CS that they will fullfill backorders of Grande Emporium 10211, but that is all. No more production of this set. It will be retired after back orders are fullfilled.

While I appreciate the information and am of the persuasion it as about to be gone, I don't understand why they would still be selling it if this was the case. If that materializes, $189 price tag for GE at TRU won't be such a bad deal after all, LOL

I don't think CS people really know one way or another, they are guessing based on whatever limited info they have at the time. 10225 R2-D2 is OOS at S @ ****. Will this retire this year ? I'd be surprised, my hunch is that this set stays around for another year at least. I can't see an iconic set like this going away with all the Star Wars mania that's going to happen next year. naf
Except they use this as opportunity to present a new set. I'm sure they'll retire a bunch of the 2013 sets like the gunship and AT-TE to make room for epVII specific sets. Any UCS sets that come out of the movie probably won't come out until 2016, since Lego seems to wait a few months after the movies release to get these out (like the Sea Cow and Spaceship!). Perhaps at that time they'll retire R2, but I don't think it's going before then. Just my hunch.

stephen_rockefeller
70% of this thread belongs there. I would never call a Can rep and ask about retirement. It's a waste of time. Call 6 times with the same question and get 6 different answers. It humorous that some people take what they say to heart :)

On a more reliable note, none of the Amazon EU sites are selling 10211, except from 3rd party sellers. Still available from LEGO Shop at Home Spain tho. knarrff
Time to change out those batteries in your sarcasm detectors people. Got me there. I should have looked at who posted it. Sometimes I cannot be sure here if something that has been written is meant as sarcasm or not. I should retire too, some day.

stephen_rockefeller
Just called CS and they said that the death star was retired a long time ago but the UCS R2 unit was just projecting holograms of the set on the shelves and that when it retires we won't be seeing anymore Death stars in stores. This seems totally legit.
