pat_teeth_hurt Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Dang 36$ tax! What is use tax on the Utah tax return? Does that mean if you buy something on amazon that does not collect a sales tax, that you still have to pay a use tax? I know for Illinois, they have something similar and although amazon doesn't collect tax, I'd still have to pay sales tax to Illinois either separately or on my tax return. There are many comments on this website about not having to pay taxes. I'm not certain that is accurate for many states that have a separate sales and use tax reporting option esp on their tax returns. Quote
legopocalypse Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Awesome buy emazers! Our stupid TRU had them at $119.99 Quote
Jackson Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Yeah, you naughty boys and girls need to start reporting your use tax and act like responsible members of our great society. Quote

LowestFormOfWit Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Texas tax is worse. 8.25% EIGHT. WITH A POINT TWO FIVE NEXT TO IT. Makes every sale that much worse. Quote
beeblet65 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 8.25 even for things like auto as well??? - o wow, that makes a 60,000 car almost 65,000!! Quote
beeblet65 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 VA is 5% - i believe auto is 3% but is changing to 4 in july Quote
LowestFormOfWit Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 I need to go live in a state with no sales tax. I think the sheer amount of roads to maintain in Texas, aside from the population, it what drives the tax rate here. Quote

There are plenty of places with sales tax way worse than Texas. Keep in mind that you get to deduct state sales tax from your federal taxes. Quote

For most of us...income tax blows away sales...so it's not an option..but in states where there is no income tax.......hmmmm. Quote
Coneil21 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 I've taken to having alot of my purchases shipped to my ski house in Vt. Its a whole different ball game minus the 8.0625 tax that I pay in NY. Quote
Coneil21 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 9.5% in this evergreen state Wow!!! I thought 8.0625 was bad! Quote
