Jules_K
Here in Australia this has been heavily discounted over the last month, many places are selling it for 25% off (AUD$300, or about US$240). While expensive exclusives are generally hard to find in retail stores, this set seems to have flooded the market and now stores are trying to get rid of slow moving stock. I think this set will do well in Australia, looking at Ebay sold listings demand appears to be higher than TB, it's a very iconic and much loved building here. I'm going to continue stocking up at 25% off until this set hits retirement.

Will buy in some if it's USD $240!
DenJ91
1 Hr. 45 Mins to sort Book 1/4 completed in 2 Hr. 25 Mins. Total 4 Hours and 10 mins. I'm tired...that's enough Lego building for one night. Overall, pretty awesome build so far. Really enjoying it. This is only the smaller (steps) side of the Opera House. Thing is gonna be massive. OzGadget
The Sydney Opera House IS a massive set once it is built, the biggest issue is where to put it once it complete. My build is sitting on my Lego desk in the garage until I work out exactly what I am going to do with it. I am thinking about putting lights on the set, not sure how and am looking to do it on a "no drill" basis. I did the following for New Year's Day, bit of a quick project at the time... <iframe class="vine-embed" src="
shirow
Interesting development: it is no longer available on Amazon at retail, and is now $383 + $11 ship from a reseller. Let's hope it will get the sold out or at least an OOS on shop at home soon!
legone
Its still available now at LEGO Shop at Home, TRU and Target. Death Star had been $549 for months before going back to

paladyr
What's our best shot at getting a discount on this set in the US?
belljohn
What's our best shot at getting a discount on this set in the US? -Double VIP with a good promo -Discounted Target gift cards combined with the 5% Red Card discount. -Discounted TRU gift cards with Rewards points Or hope that it gets a Lego discount like it did overseas. I have all mine using the Target method.
Grynn
TRU selling out of this has me intrigued. SAH is OOS / 30 days, generally assumed to be less promising of re-stock than a definite ship date. Target claims to be selling them like hotcakes, will they jack the price to $400 tomorrow? Amazon appears to be holding steady and Walmart could have sold out any time this year without me knowing. All this from today's DD thread, but since no one else carried it over and I've suspected SOH could make an early retirement this year, I'm doing the honors. As disliked as the set is, an early disappearance would help investment potential astronomically. Anyone want to fess up to having 10+ of this yet?

Val-E
Over here the is WIDELY available at the "bargain" price of 320 euros. I may get some when it is officially EOL but the problem is it is so expensive compared to Tower Bridge or just about any other set that no one is buying it now and I don´t see there being a big change when it EOL´s. Jules_K
Here in Australia this set is still widely available and sells very well, which is to be expected I guess. It is also discounted very regularly to Au$300 (about US$240) so I think it will do very well for investors here once it goes EOL.
Crustybeaver
no one is buying it now and I don´t see there being a big change when it EOL´s.IF this set suddenly vanished I would imagine the SOH would do a TH and rocket in price as investors and collectors scramble to pick up what they can. There's just no way it would just sit on the shelves with no one buying it.
Val-E
It´s been doing an excellent job of that so far! If the only people biting after EOL are resellers then this is exactly the type of set to I want to avoid as it does not have the collectibiity appeal of the modulars (which is what saved TH) and is a much less iconic building than Eiffel, Taj or even TB.I find it hard to make a case for getting one SOH over a Sandcrawler or 2 Parisian Restaurants, for instance. There's just no way it would just sit on the shelves with no one buying it. I have built this set & if you intend to break it up for the dark tan & white pieces, that's fine. There are alot alot of support pieces that make up the sails which could be sold off but they are random in colour. The blue bases are anotherpossible seller but beyond that i wouldnot suggest buying it for investment purposes as the market may never be there to increase it's value, either long or short term.the set is a interesting one as far as those who have been collecting the larger scale landmarks. Beyond that, it will probably be as sought after as the Jack Stone sets!

citymorgue
You know, it cracks me up every time I see someone that says this about a set. Sure it may be a slow seller, and sure it may be expensive, but I've seen people time and time again say, 'ohhh what a poor investment.'Then without fail, once the whiff of retirement comes, everyone scrambles. And within a couple of months those that didn't buy in are kicking themselves because they didn't invest. Honestly, I hope this set skyrockets if it retires, so that some of you can just realize that exclusives do really well, and next time you won't be so pessimistic about it. But people are stubborn and that won't happen.
BrickLegacy
It will be fun to see to if the $650 I just spent on two R2s would have performed better if invested in two SOH. I'll have to check back in 6 and 12 months to see how these are progressing.

But people are stubborn and that won't happen. You're dead on...and don't worry, this set appreciating is as sure a bet as there is in Lego investing. Anyone who says otherwise is either purposefully trying to throw people off or has zero experience selling Lego. As as for timing, who knows when this will retire. All I can say is that the usual signs are not there yet. Going OOS at one online retailer doesn't signal a thing.
