Jeff Mack Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Reading some of the latest comments I added in a feature that will show you similar topics when you are posting. This is just a trial run. Some may find it annoying, some may find it helpful. It can cut down on duplicate posts and help keep other topics going strong. Lets try it out and see how it works. Here is a video to show how it works. After you type your topic title and move to the next form field, you should see the topic options come in. If you see a topic that matches yours, don't create a new one, keep the other one alive. I disabled this feature in the Introduce Yourself forum, since I know there will already be many similar types. That is fine. http://www.screencast.com/t/dbee6OgL 1 Quote
Fcbarcelona101 Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Sounds very useful, that way we may reduce some of the clutter. Quote
rcdb1984 Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I think there's already another thread on this.....jk...bahahahaa Quote
Blackjack Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Sounds very useful, that way we may reduce some of the clutter. I suppose the mods could merge similar threads now, but it would take a massive amount of time. Quote
TheOrcKing Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Oh, thank you, Jeff! This should help immensely! Quote

Are you tired of the 30 different "who owns a Death Star" threads? 1 Quote
Grolim Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Great idea. Do mods have the ability to merge topics? We do get a few duplicates every now and then. Quote
Ed Mack Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Merging topics is a pain in the dupa. Excuse my Polish...and yes, mods do have the ability to merge topics. Quote
Darth_Raichu Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 It looks like the feature only search for similar topics in the same sub-forum. Example, this new topic was in minifigure section / subforum: http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/3887-minifigs-dont-smile-anymoreeven-more-angry/#entry120425 While there is an existing one in the Odds&End subforum: http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/3759-angry-lego-faces-a-sign-of-the-times/ If you go to Odds&Ends and start a new topic titled angry minifigs, the topic in the Minifiure section is not among the returned "Similar Topics". Vice versa if you try the same thing in Minifigure section. Quote

Perhaps I was testing it exactly when the 2 angry face posts being merged together. Quote

I merged the two a little bit after you mentioned them. I knew Darth Lego brought it up before but forgot where it was. Thanks for finding the links; it made my job much easier! Quote
Darth_Raichu Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Duh, perhaps it was typos on my part. Next time I should do this kind of tests on my pc where I can take sceenshots and actually double check what I am seeing. Quote
exciter1 Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 That is great! I hope this cuts down on the daily new topics about old topics being posted. 3 Quote
