legopocalypse Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Now this is an x-wing! Over 5 million pieces! Quote
Blackjack Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 It sucks that it's built exactly like the old Lego set instead of being movie accurate. :( Quote

Darth_Raichu Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 I was going to buy one, but then I would need a new garage for it.... Quote
steakyboy Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 I was going to buy one, but then I would need a new garage for it.... Ha! Bad enough the wife opens every closet and see boxes full of Legos, then she goes into the garage and I gotta hear, "Babe, why is there an X Wing parked in the garage?" Move along, move along, this is not the garage you are looking for. Quote
Sauromosis Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 I'M GONNA NEED EVERYONE TO CLEAR THE WALKWAY! CLEAR THE WALKWAY!!! Quote

@rtisan Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Holy smokes! That`s pretty darn cool. If I had a million dollars, I`d buy me the parts for one of these :coolsmirk: Quote
Studebricker Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 I was looking to see if the giant rubber bands were real rubber, but they're built out of bricks. Oh well... Quote
Grolim Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 That's pretty cool. Would like to see a making of vid. Pity the wings don't open. Quote
cambridge02138 Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 I was there for the ceremony. It was well attended by at least 100 people. No promotional items were given out. However, there was a mini-x-wing "build and take" event. The event organizers also allow you to have your picture taken with you at the pilot seat of the life-size x-wing. Quote

It probably took more than that to design, build, transport, and set up the model. Also, were you the guy who wouldn't clear the walkway? ha just kidding Quote
cambridge02138 Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 According to several staff members I spoke to, the model was built in Europe, taken apart, shipped in 30 boxes to the US, and re-assembled in the US. Large sections were brought to Times Sq around 3 am and then re-assembled. After this event, the X-wing will be transported to Legoland CA. Quote

Blackjack Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I wish they would build one of these bad boys without the internal supports; just bricks. Quote

Please keep this walkway clear, clear the walkway please. Isn't that the truth? For a whole minute it seemed that's all you heard and people just standing there staring. :blank: Doncha just love New Yorkers? It sucks that it's built exactly like the old Lego set instead of being movie accurate. Yeah but it still is impressive as heck though. It really does look like a giant sized Lego model! Now I know what it looks like from a minifigures point of view. What a shocker, they built another x-wing! Pretty cool though I know right? Never in a million years would I have guessed Lego building yet another X-Wing! Nope! No never! Quote
