And that's why you left?

Too each their own.  I just want those who aren't overly familiar with the rules to know that legally they are responsible whether they get a 1099 or not. I'm certainly not going to tell anyone what to do.  ...just the more info...the better...

One of the reasons, but certainly not the main one. The country is taking a huge nose dive into "socialism" and crime is just nuts.

Dont do that now some members like DonNotInsertintoMouth and so on will come to tell you you should not talk that because obviously noone is cheating taxes and so on

laughable... but you shall see!

You are laughable Alcarin. You realize that no one takes you seriously right?

As I remember, I had nothing to say about taxes, I said you were judging America for what they do and calling out Americans.

I actually agree with Pickleboy here and report my incomes properly every year.

Don't forget it is also your responsibility to report all of those tax free internet purchases you made during the year to your state so you can pay them their cut as well. Better consult your accountant.

This is true.  Although I understand that you weren't saying it add to the discussion but being sarcastic and used to justify not paying other taxes.  I guess we all have decisions we need to make but like I said before, too each their own.  I am certainly not going to tell you which laws to obey and which to ignore.  I was just pointing out that any investment is taxable regardless of having a 1099 or not.

Your point is a good one Pickleboy, people are going to disagree. I am with you and understand what you are saying.

What some people (and some trolls we know) don't understand, is tax law in the states makes absolutely no sense. Now, I wont tell people not to follow laws that make no sense - more importantly, these tax laws actually are hard to understand. You literally do have to pay someone else to do it for you, on top of having to pay the taxes themselves.

Most Americans like me would not avoid taxes if they actually were easy to understand or made sense. But they don't, and not everyone can afford an accountant. Just the way things are.

I will make this point to all of the lower inventory sellers here like me making <5-10K a year selling - If you are married, your tax deduction is over 10K (I think its 10.7K?). Report your stuff, chances are you will still have some return and you have piece of mind. I always expect a zero return on my taxes - I just don't want to have to pay anything. When I get them done, I am always pleasantly surprised to get a couple hundred dollars back.

America--or Spain--not as easy to tell them apart lately?  An argument as old as time...that won't be solved or hashed out in a lego forum.  The makers want to give less "tax" to the collective, and the takers always want more wealth redistributed via taxing "authorities"  Who is John Galt, indeed.  My lego venture will be taking a loss this year--just like all my other hobby/ventures.

I would hazard a guess (educated) that less than 5% here actually use an accoutant---good or otherwise.  Why doesn't anyone ever "recommend" a bad accountant or bad lawyer?  I also notice the people who don't pay taxes and don't have a "good" accountant seem to suggest both to those that do.

Yup - another thing to note to anyone judging - A lot of accountants will straight up tell you where you can get away with stuff. Tax professionals as well.

I really wish our country would go to a tax system that was simpler. I feel like it would be good for everyone involved.

My last lawyer sucked.  I won't recommend one but I can tell anyone in ATL which one NOT to use!!!

Guest TabbyBoy

It's actually Venezuela, not Spain. Even worse lol

One of my colleagues was from Caracas and got carjacked twice in 6 months so he upped sticks and came to the UK!  The only thing he missed was the very low fuel prices where the UK came as a bit of a shock!  I've been to Caracas with work and I found it OK.

Corporations don't pay taxes.  People pay taxes.  There is a corporate tax rate, that gets added into the purchase price of goods/services--very similar to the VAT.

That's semantics but yes you are correct.   Too bad some of them keep the taxes they charged me...

Edit...darn it another double post but in my defense...this question was being asked while I typed the last one!

Who can i call out in America if not Americans :)

When i reminded people that they should also do what someone exposed here

Basically in USA as far as i read the rules you are a tax cheat unless you report any and all free tax purchases online/different country... now if someone who is far more knowledgable than me can confirm or deny that I will be quiet.

http://news.yahoo.com/tax-cheat-shop-online-tax-free-125342625.html

Anyway if anyone far more knowledgeable than me can confirm or deny my link (source) about tax cheating in USA I would be very thankful!

once I will have time I will dig into some of USA tax policy and laws because I always wanted to read and understand them more since to me they feel weird... but hey I am an European...

EDIT:

oh btw

You realize that no one takes you seriously right?

When i called Americans tax cheaters you were pretty upset, but you can judge in the name of whole webpage and XX thousand peopel registered.... I expect you talked with everyone and got a statement atleast considering your bold (and same as mine) statement

speak for yourself then please if you want to ''attack'' me next time when i generalize... you are not 1 bit better tbh.

You're talking about Sales and Use tax, and the laws vary state by state. Some states have no Sales/Use tax at all, and there is no requirement for taxpayers to report out of state/country purchases. There is currently no federal sales tax.

Most, if not all, states that have Sales/Use tax do require you to report taxable (not everything you buy is taxable) purchases if you did not pay sales tax or, at least in the case of California, if you paid less sales tax than you would have owed had you purchased the item in your state. (I.e, if I go out of state to purchase items and pay 5% sales tax there, I owe the difference to California between that 5% and my county's sales/use tax rate).

IF the out of state/country purchase is consumed/used out of state, I do not owe California anything for those purchases - I do not have to pay a "use" tax for something I didn't "use" in California.

I do notice that you like to call people names, which I find immature and boring. I was a bit startled at your disparaging comments about "gypsies" and their habits in your country, and you seem to also like to attack Americans in general and those who are financially better off than you as well.

If you really feel that disparaging others is the best use of your time on this forum and in life, I'd encourage you to find a more positive outlet - you may find yourself enjoying more success.

The problem I have with Alcarin's statement (not him personally) is that he makes it sound as if only Americans cheat taxes. Some do, but the same can be said of every single country.

There are many countries where people do not have to pay taxes on property until construction is complete.  What ends up happening is they build a four story building...live in the bottom three floors and leave the fourth floor incomplete so that they don't have to pay taxes.  It is amazing to me how many incomplete building there are in Greece and Peru with people living in them. (I'm sure several other countries too...those are just the only two I have been to.)

Edit  I didn't read his statements about gypsies but I am sure I agree 100% with his sentiment.

Well said

Exactly. I don't see it (morally) as any different than... well let's say getting around TLG's buying limits which I am sure a lot of people on here do. Now, obviously the government part of it makes it a lot different, but on just pure morality its the same.

And keep this in mind US naysayers - some don't pay taxes on certain things because they don't approve of how the government spends the money (see: Obama lavish vacations with US personnel). A lot of people see this as a form of Civil Disobedience. Although some others subscribe to this thought:

Well to be honest... even if I personally as a citizen of Republic of Slovenia WOULD even want to ATTEMPT to cheat taxes I would have to open business...

as an individual customer it is literally IMPOSSIBLE to buy ANYWHERE in Europe and cheat sales tax... and if i buy in USA for example my tax control will give me real hard time and maybe i could cheat a dollar or 2.

So technically if we exclude purchasing from USA or similar countries that hold no tax on purchase it is literally impossible to cheat taxes in Slovenia as individual buyer....

I cannot report anything even if I would've wanted.

Thats why I am amazed with weird and illogical USA sytem where I find it so easy to cheat taxes lol

So you're technically saying if you buy a box of LEGO in California and not open(use) it you dont need to pay taxes ... ? but if you'd open it you would have to pay taxes (tax difference)

Well none of them were false ever.... you know a gypsy familly in Slovenia about 70 miles away from me has 50 kids and noone has job and they get 13.000
