Welcome again... ;)

To start out, it is a little hard to invest with $50, as many of the big gainers will be costing $150+ at regular MSRP pricing. Some very solid sets you should try to pick up are Star Wars battle packs. In particular, I would pick up the 9488 Elite Clone Trooper & Commando Droid Battle pack. It is currently $9.44 on Amazon, which is probably the cheapest you will find it, at 27% off. http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Elite-Clone-Trooper-Commando/dp/B005VPRFPM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1368385698&sr=8-1&keywords=lego+9488

Battle Packs have often doubled in value at regular MSRP, so buying 27% off is a great bonus to add to the bag.

I'll take a look! How much do you think it will rise to by christmas?

It depends on when the set retires. I think battle packs have tended to retire right around Christmas time, so you might have to wait a little longer. If you want more immediate results (which it sounds like you are more interested in), you should look into the Monster Fighters theme. The whole theme will be retiring by summer, excluding the Haunted House, and many members have already found some of the theme's sets on clearance for very nice deals.

With 50 bucks I would buy 16 Mr. Golds. Multiply your money by 256! Now you only have to find 16 Mr. Golds.... Seriously now, I would scour the clearance aisles, lots of stuff should go on clearance in the coming months, LOTR, Avengers/DC Superheroes, etc. so watch for sets in Walmarts and Targets.
