BrickLegacy
Ewok Village is now OOS at Amazon. It's now OOS at SAH, target and Amazon in the US. "Item under review" at Amazon which means it should be back at msrp in a few days.
Jules_K
288 left at SAH in the EU, with about 7 selling per day. At this rate it should be gone by mid to late September.... unless of course there is a restock!

GiliusThunderhead
When the stock numbers are going down (below 100) people will buy faster than 7 per day. For example PS last week. This is actually a really good tip that many collectors should be following if they're thinking about buying a set. If its been out > 1.5yrs and its on your "to buy" list then if stock (assuming you're in the EU of course) drops below 100 then you'd be wise to buy even if it goes in a cupboard whilst the time comes around to build it. Once these go EOL the new MRSP is effectively the old LEGO one + 15% to account for ebay/paypal etc fess + shipping. Going back to EV, once this goes EOL as a collector, if you can get this for anywhere under $310 then that's going to be an absolute bargain - re-sellers are going to have to cover there fees, storage/opportunity costs. jaylay
got mine from Target today, it took awhile .... oversized box and the box was crushed .... i rate the EV box a 7/10 with creases to the edges ... seals intact and read 47R4 ... ill keep this one since its getting harder to find ... Ciglione
I am doubting to buy one of these. Will be my first and purely as investment. Doubt arises due to the fact that the "price per piece ratio" is quite high. Logically thinking the number of minifigs should compensate for that. Any comments on this?Or should I buy something else? If you don't like it or don't feel good about it as an investment then don't buy it. Easy as that. Put your money into something that you do like or are more confident about. This is the same reasoning why I don't own a single Death Star for investment purposes. You don't have to have every single exclusive as part of your portfolio. GiliusThunderhead
Just to be clear from the outset I dont own any of these but i do think it will be a good investment as long as you're willing to run the risk of a DS type investment (long term horizon). Huge number of mini figs & great display item. Will appeal to AFOLS, SW fans, OT fans and the new ones that will be converted from the new movies.I can really see this as one of the "I missed out on this set when it was at retail but I'm still willing to pay 2 x MRSP for a MSIB one" sets. Given its also a "play set" you know they'll be loads of these opened & displayed. Bits will get lost etc so finding them complete will be harder then your average set to come by. Know this might make me a few enemies but i think 5 years from today this will be a better performer then the DS (which wont be bad, just not as good as EV).My 2 cents anyway. If i ever see one of these at a discount I'm buying. If you don't like it or don't feel good about it as an investment then don't buy it. Easy as that. Put your money into something that you do like or are more confident about. This is the same reasoning why I don't own a single Death Star for investment purposes. waddamon
So I have picked up roughly 14 of these from amazon and all the codes are from middle of last year to august of last year. Getting to the dregs.
waddamon
I think I'll keep adding until they are gone. Need to sell some unimogs and clear out some space.

I don't mind, and I'm probably not the first to give that simple advice on this site so I can't really claim it as my own anyway. For the record, I own 4 EV (5 if you count the one in our personal collection) and feel exactly as you do when comparing it to the DS. I'm on record somewhere in either this thread or the DS thread stating pretty close to the same thing. I think EV is being overlooked, and 4-5 years past eol has potential to be a real money maker. I think EV displays much better than the DS. If I'm wrong then I'm wrong, but that's what makes this all a gamble and fun at the same time, right?
Ciglione
Thanks for the comments and advice guys. Especially Terry... you were very straight forward. What I also do when I advice my friends. Appreciate that.I am still undecided. My wife likes it alot and told me to buy it instead of the Red-5. It is truly a unique set. Though I do not like it as much as I would like to. I am not an Ewok fan and I am not particularly fond of the boxart. But when I see it displayed in the Legostore it is impressive! When I check ebay it is offered more than ToO. ToO is retired in Europe. So I could draw a careful conclusion EV is more hoarded than ToO. Also it is a shame it is not an UCS set. The price certainly would justify it. Some months ago I mentioned in this thread that I would only buy one if I did not know what else to buy. And there it is. I dunno what else to buy. PS is so lame. Red-5 is not exclusive anymore according to Lego. I will leave it in the cart and sleep on it tonight.

Personally, it sounds like you are over analyzing your decision a bit. Box art? Price per piece ratio? More hoarded than ToO? When I decide what to buy I ask myself one thing...is the damn thing cool? When I look at it does it have the wow factor? If I feel that way about a set then chances are good that future buyers will feel the same way. Five years from now the person willing to spend 2-5x msrp for this set won't care about price per piece ratio. They will want it because it's a damn cool set, displays very well, and they missed out on it.

jaisonline
the EV is a well designed set but will it continue to appreciate after the initial reseller buying frenzy "pop" when it's no longer available? I learned to never bet on a few things in SW lego investing. thus I avoid (along with other poeple) Ep 1, Ep 2, and Ewok sets. e.g. the battle of endor is a great set and hasn't done much $-wise since retirement many years ago. One copy of the Battle of Endor languished on my Target's shelves for what seemed like years. In the end, I almost bought it just so I could take that beat-to-heck box out back and shoot it behind the ear to put it out of its misery. But yeah, Ewoks! Locutus001
I'm not sure though if you can compare EV (a UCS so to say) to the smaller sets. Also the "wow effect" that comes with EV is totally different from battle of endor (even though BoE is also a very nice set! but I'd say it's not as versatile by far)
colossus
Lesson 1, your wife is always right. Take that to the bank. Unless it's Ed's wife recommending not to grab the last 2 MF on Amazon Simple way I decide to buy or not currently is if it fits into my investment plan (I prefer to go long rather than QF since I'm lazy) and do I think the set is damn cool as noted above. Unless you think you're some weirdo and nobody else has you're tastes chances are there will be a few people who like what you like. The key is few. Now stocking up 20-50x deep on a large "eclectic" set takes guts... but no risk no reward. I bought 1 EV this past June when I came out of my Dark Ages. Worst case scenario is I build it with kids, enjoy it, pack it back in a box and put it in the attic under less than ideal conditions - even then it will outperform any electronics I buy from an investment standpoint so I don't stress over the 1 I got.

You haven´t mentioned buy-in price, mate. It´s not the same to pay 180 euros as 260 for this type of set. At less than 200, it´s a good buy, more than that depends on your faith about how it will perform after EOL (remember that like Sandcrawler it doesn+t not sell well on lego shop at full price but was flying with 10% off - that should tell you something)
fantomas007
I dont understand why people say that EV is not so good as other UCSs or poor seller... for me it is the one of the best sets ever - it looks amazing as a display set, even the common people like it when see it. It is also the biggest "nature" lego set - and the big trees looks great.

When they say it's not good as UCS sets it's prob due to diff reasons. Overall design , targeted market of buyers, looks more like a Hasbro you, it's not a ship, etc... Note : EV is not a UCS set
