CNH1974 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 All can be ordered at the moment, in the UK at least. Helms deep and at least two others will go in June. Quote
whiteboy02 Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 This is a pretty cool set! my personal favorite minifigure is Gollum. Quote
sadowsk1 Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 That, and I have my doubts that Shelob will make a return in the future. I agree to this. Shelob didn't have presence outside of the single appearance it made in the movie. Quote
Grolim Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 At 35% off it's hard to go wrong. I'd go for it at that price. Have you read the reviews on the set? There are a couple of very good ones: http://www.brickpicker.com/reviews/set.cfm?set=9470-1 Quote
Blackjack Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I like this set, but it is available everywhere, so it probably won't be a massive earner. TOK and I are going to have battles with these things though I won't let it get out of hand. Quote
Guest eightbrick Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Short Answer: Good Investment. Long Answer: The set is facing hard competition from other cheap sets like Wolverine Chopper Showdown and Arctic Batman, but the uniqueness of the LOTR line and the exclusivity of Sam will make it a valuable investment. In fact, this competition has helped the set fly under the radar which is always a good thing. If LOTR is discontinued after this wave than it will be the only set with Sam, who plays a huge part in the films. If LOTR is continued the themes popularity will only rise and help prices. The set itself is my personal favorite from the first LOTR line, and while I can't promise that it will be the next Ice Dragon, it sure looks like it might. Need more proof? Lets look at some similar priced sets from other popular movies: 7621 Indiana Jones and the Lost Tomb: Retail $19.99 Current Price: $71.33 (256% up from retail) 4737 Quidditch Match: Retail $19.99 Price: $41.15 (105% up from retail) If your budget allows, get a couple (or ten). You won't regret it in five years. Quote

I think if you have the space and some $$$ (and find it cheap) picking up a few would be prudent. I cannot see it exploding as much as the Ice Dragon, but it will do well. Quote

How is Gollum exclusive? cheapest Hobbit set = Gollum... This set will fail horribly IF sam is rereleased in any other set If he is not he will double easily within 2 years of AFOL it all depends on the Sam boy Quote
Alcarin Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 It is a different Gollum to the Hobbit set apart from completionists for us regular mortal beings 1 gollum is more than enough Quote
TheDarkness Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I agree with the Sam comment, that a lot of the sets value hinges on him. As for Gollum, well people do want multiples of sets with the variations. By the time the number of sets dwindle, people will pay if they want it, and parents will pick Shelob over Riddles most times due to more figures, parts and the spider. Quote
Ambroise Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 apart from completionists for us regular mortal beings 1 gollum is more than enough Well, 1 Gollum + 1 smaegol, to have them talk together... 3 Quote
Grolim Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Well, 1 Gollum + 1 smaegol, to have them talk together... Yep Speaking as an LOTR minifig collector I have to have both variations. Quote
beartrapper Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I think its a winner especially at 35% off. Of all the sets my son and I have put together recently, he consistently plays with Shelob. Plus there is also crossover value for people who missed out on Hagrid's Hut and the big spider that came with that one. In the world of HP, Hagrid is easy to get but a brick built spider isnt. Quote
TheOrcKing Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 Speaking as an LOTR minifig collector I have to have both variations. And me speaking as a general minfig collector (or just being myself), I must have both for my collection as well as what Ambroise said. Well, 1 Gollum + 1 smaegol, to have them talk together... I can totally see this scene in Lego......and sitting on my desk. Quote
Spartikis Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 i feel it has enough uniqgue minifigs that it should do well, even shelob, which could technically be built from pieces wont looks 100% correct without the face brick. Quote

Well, of course its not going to be the next Ice Dragon in that it will see a rapid rise (or at least I doubt it will), but I can see it getting up to 70 bucks in a couple years. Quote
mozyrevo Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 There is a lot of people that don't have this set for investment, and also a lot that don't rate it. Thats two pluses in my book as the supply is limited in the future. Found some at a local toy shop at 50% off so got the last 2 for 1 Quote
Bsusanka Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 The shelob scene is pretty iconic and I think there will be enough hard core LOTR fans out there that the set will grow in value after EOL. Just my two cents... Quote
Alfiepops Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Bought a bucket load of these from Tesco UK @ Quote
ZombieToyChest Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 I walked into a Toys R US outlet and saw about 15 sitting on a shelf but they rand up for $39.99. I should have known better. Quote
MarleyMoose Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 So many regrets. I always passed on these on clearance all over the place. But I was young and new and didn't know any better I tell myself. Quote
