Sflego86 Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 Went to my local Wal-Mart and found a few Helms Deep sets marked down to $89.00; I grabbed the nice ones, but noticed one had the thick two-inch tape around the middle. I checked the seals, they didn't look tampered with at all, and the box didnt seem like it was missing anything, but it was still concerning. Was wondering if it would still be worth picking up at $89? Quote
Maverick2k1 Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 If your looking to build the set then it might be worth picking up, but if your looking to invest you should pass. Quote
oldsmobile Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 I might still buy it; if this set takes off, you could double your money or more even with the damage. Lots of people buying retired Lego for their kids don't care about box condition so long as all the internal bags are sealed and nothing is missing. Quote
akohns Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 I picked up 5 weathertops at Walmart last night. 2 boxes in good condition. 2 smash boxes and 1 smashed box that had the factory seals popped. They gave me 10% off for the 3 that were damaged. It's worth a try asking. Quote
CNH1974 Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 In five or ten years time, will people be worrying about the state of the box if it is still sealed. If they want to buy to build then it will not make much difference. Quote
kerrmando Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 I buy all the damaged boxes I can get with a discount. No parents care when their kid wants the set. I've seen damaged diagon alley's and damaged hogwarts selling well recently! Quote
brandon90820 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I bought 2 vampyre castles discounted at walmart and just realized they have one side double taped over the seals. they are still lego seals though, and both sets weight the same amount...should I crack them open and make sure they are ok, or can i trust walmart? iv'e seen so many opened sets scattered and taped up in the aisles of walmart it scares me Quote

I just recently sold a Hogwarts Express in a very damaged and open box for $ 205 because it was supposed to be a birthday gift for his son. Quote
kerrmando Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Exactly. The kids will open them. The boxes will be thrown out and then I'll buy the sets in bulk lots down the road.. Quote
spener90 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I buy these sets all of the time. I don't see an issue with them, especially when the interior is still packaged. Quote
