cpcarey1225 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 As part of their official plans for SDCC 2012, Lego is going to unveil the Rancor Monster Pit set on Saturday. I can honestly say that this has been my dream set since I was a kid and now as an AFOL I can afford to buy it. I wonder if it will connect to the new Jabba's Palace set and make use of the trap door. I figure since The Urukai Army set and Helm's Deep connect that their might be a chance of this connectivity. What do you guys think? Rancor Monster Pit Quote
BuildIT Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 If they don't link, then maybe LEGO missed out on something or hinted at something....however a trap door etc etc. Be great of they did. Agree also with Ed, would make for a good way to shift two sets as one. Quote
cpcarey1225 Posted July 11, 2012 Author Posted July 11, 2012 If they didn't link up then I'm sure we would all find a way to make them connect LOL. The Rancor is either going to be the biggest minifig in history, or it will be a buildable creature like Shelob. My guess would be the latter. Quote
timinchicago Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I have seen a review of Jabbas Palace that shows 4 2x2 openings on the bottom of the set that might be used to connect to a Rancor Pit set. Would make the sense. Quote
Zoroaku Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 It's probably going to be over-priced like Jabba's palace. Quote
doncaldeep4552 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Pretty sure it will be $59.99 Quote
ahming2121 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I hope there will be a new Jabba's Sail Barge after the Desert Skiff... Quote
Doofy McGee Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I feel foolish for admitting this, but I guess I didn't even realize it was out. So when I saw it at a Target tonight, I nearly swooned with excitement! That Rancor not-so-mini fig is awesome! Quote
Doofy McGee Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Whoops, I guess I forgot to really ask the question I wanted answered... Are you guys finding this readily available yet? Quote
Talon Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I think this is a great set, haven't seen it in the wild yet. While I think it is a great set, I think it is overpriced at $60 retail for 380 pieces, even with the cool Rancor. I'm resisting it until it meets my discount minimum. lol I have seen it at 10% off on Amazon. Quote
tormentalous Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I picked up the set last week at the LEGO store after waiting for it to arrive in stores a week after the other Star Wars sets came out. I did an in-depth review on it and it's a neat set but it feels incomplete without Jabba's Palace. http://www.thebrickfan.com/lego-star-wars-rancor-pit-75005-review/ Quote
stephen_rockefeller Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 it feels incomplete without Jabba's Palace.I totally agree and that is why like I said in another thread that for every palace I get, I will be getting a pit to go with it, and sell the two sets as a package deal. it should work out........eventually. I think these sets will be available for quite some time! Quote
jaisonline Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I feel foolish for admitting this, but I guess I didn't even realize it was out. So when I saw it at a Target tonight, I nearly swooned with excitement! That Rancor not-so-mini fig is awesome! I saw and bought this during my first target price match visit. The main retailers also have it online. It is starting to become more common on shelves. I like the set (and figs) and concept but wish it just had more substance to it. Maybe have rock walls instead of open air. I paid near retail price (just to finally get one). my son and i have three 9516 Jabba Palace sets (only 1 w/ minifigs). We are thinking about ways to make a larger Palace and still attach the Rancor set. Note: my son is 3 so I'm doing most of design work :( Quote

exciter1 Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I bought a second pit without the minifigs to expand on it when I put it together. It needs to be a little bigger. Quote
jaisonline Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 This is exactly what I was feeling when I looked at it, you just put it into words for me. i'm thinking mostly gray elements w/ some tan /brown ones added in. i will take a better look at this link later= http://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?catType=P&catString=99 Quote
Huskers1236 Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I do agree that it is overpriced, I picked mine up from LEGO Shop at Home since I had VIP to bring down the price. For those that want walls for it, I agree that those would make it more like the movie, but would make it very hard to play with, and would have raised the piece count(and price) quite a bit. You would have then had an $80 set that everybody would be complaining about. You can always MOC it too. Let's face it, we are only getting this set for the Rancor, not for the aesthetics of a rock pit. Quote

cvail8 Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I agree that without Jabba's Palace, it looks a little... lacking. My local Targets have all had it out for sale, along with the full Chima, SH, and Ninjago lines. It's an awesome set that I can't wait to put out on display, just waiting for it to go on sale. I finally picked up a Palace on sale a couple weeks ago, I don't think I'll hold out that long on this one. 20% and it will be mine! Quote
stephen_rockefeller Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I saw the rancor last night on display in my Lego store........its massive!! I love this set! Quote
nolanfan34 Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I've been waiting for this one to come down a bit more....I think I'll keep holding until it hits that 20% mark... Quote
