IIRC someone here said yesterday (I think it was DNIIM) that his order wasn't correctly processed as the item had been taken off the website. Maybe that's why it is back.

Well my order placed on the 1st finally arrived today :)  Pleased to report it survived the long journey perfectly, along with the DeLoreans and Min Mech in the same big box.  Now I just wish I'd ordered more :D

Well you could open the box but not the plastic bags then look through the pieces while they are in the bag until you find the # plate. Then once you find it you can put the bags back in the box and reseal it. It's a gamble since you opened the box but, the bags would still be sealed and if you find out that the license # is a desired number it could sell for more.

I just saw this. I wonder why they would put it back online when the probably have sold all or almost 20,000 sets.

Lego can't just let the resellers and hardcores know about this set.  If nobody knows about it, we don't make money and they don't get their free press when the prices get out of control.  It's TLG throwing the resllers a bone that whoever wants one would need to go to Ebay.

I'm not sure they are intentionally throwing anyone a bone, but I do agree this is great that it is back on the site. Seeing the sold out tag only adds to the appeal (and probably saves them a lot of customer service calls from people asking where the set is listed).

Not to change the subject, but I don't know how to list any info yet, so Not much talk about the Cuusoo DeLorean Time Machine but Walmart LEGO Shop at Home has it for sale, up to 5 of them. Is it still hot?

Last few sales on Ebay is around 45+10 shipping.  If you want to quick arbitrage, make your best determination if those numbers work for you.  The flipping days of that set is over.

I called about the condition of my box and they are expediting a replacement to me as well. Should be here by Friday. They appear to have enough stock on standby to replace damaged boxes.

It's a double edge sword.  They can take down the listing and the reviews and publicity goes away.  They made the set so they can promote their You Make It We Build It contest.  The main clientele for Pick a Brick is the MOCers, they want to promote that set to attract those customers.  That business by far has the highest margin, they don't want to shut that door.

Wonderful. When will the growth stop?

They have been out for half a month almost and seen 150% growth. Wanna know what the CAGR for that is?

3600% CAGR!

If it keeps this up, it will be worth $12,093,235,200 in August of 2018!!!

:money:

"And in business news, we've just heard that billionare computer pioneer, Bill Gates, has spent his entire fortune on a single Lego set, which he purchased for over 12 billion dollars. I think that would be the headline for the New York Times.

Bill Gates Spends Entire Fortune on One Lego Set.

116 listings currently on Ebay... that's a lot of listings! Only 25 showing up as auctions though. Interesting strategy (Auction vs BIN)...

I'm just pointing out the obvious since I'm new to investing and finally getting ready to sell some and I'm using this set as a barometer to see what happens when sets go EOL or out of stock... the madness that ensues.

IMHO, this should not be seen as a barometer. This set had some very special conditions that have led to where it stands right now.

Just to set everyone's expectation, 41999 is an exclusive set with limited number of production.  Most sets do not share these characteristics so 41999 is definately an exception and not the rule. At the very least this set is not the best example for after EOL performance benchmark.

Usually retired sets are available for around 2 years, 41999 was around for just 10 days. This one also was produced in a limited quantity while mostly all of the non 41999 sets have near unlimited production.

Want to use a set as a barometer? If you follow the knowledge shared here you could see LOTR's Orc Forge 9476 progression, it went EOL about a month or two ago and was somewhat easily available.

Probably used the wrong term. I know the limited run of these and the value on Ebay is unique, but for me, it is like a hurricane versus a long windy, rainy season. Everything happens at the most extreme levels in a rapid amount of time. I'm also worried like others, something will occur that ends it just as quickly...
