gregpj Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Well, I did it... Cut the seals and opened one to build! The box had a couple punctures, but really to me it was a set I was never not going to build. And to satisfy the curious... 6 Quote
Guest brickcrazyhouse Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 intrested to see how it goes. this was the only set i flipped and had no desire to build Quote
jaisonline Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I'm on book 2 of my 41999 Brickpicker build review for this set. It's pretty cool so far and finding it more interesting than the Tumbler built last week. 1 Quote
gregpj Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 The wheels are huge and I'm a sticker guy.. No fear of putting them on! Quote

It's pretty cool so far and finding it more interesting than the Tumbler built last week. I have no interest in the tumbler... Though we have most of the other recent DC sets. I built the MKII this summer and that was hella fun. I think this one will be more fun knowing I can drive it around after! Quote
Migration Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Always nice seeing someone break the seals and build a set like this. Enjoy. 1 Quote
gregpj Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 (edited) Step 69! Very cool so far... Somewhat repetitive given the front/back and hubs are the "same" but it's still awesome. My fingers hurt from all the pins. *edit... Happy New Year! * Edited January 1, 2015 by gregpj 1 Quote

gregpj Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Ahhhh, the little bowls look oh so familiar. Yeah, the plastic ones are IKEA and work great. End of #1 bags... And time for bed. Quote
kandykop Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I think I can show you what really make fingers hurt...happy buillding, technic is endless fun. 9 Quote
chipbee Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I always tape up a few finger tips before starting on technic big sets. In this way the fingers will not hurt. Quote
jaisonline Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Great going Greg. I'm about 5 steps past this picture from book 2 (the pic doesn't show the infrared and main power PFs added). 1 Quote
gregpj Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Winch! Two more books to go. I can't wait to get into the dark blue pieces. Quote
gregpj Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 License plate 19329 attached. Lights! It continues to be quite repetitive, but substantially different than other technic models I've built. I can only describe it as a lot of fun and I should have cut the seals sooner. :) 1 Quote

kandykop Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 *wiping drool from chin* Great collection - color me jealous! Thanks, those MOCs are all remote controlled. The Ferrari 458 even has a convertible mechanism. Quote
gregpj Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Step 102... I made a fairly serious mistake with the brush guard that I didn't notice until I was missing one of the angled beams for the wheel wells. Luckily pieces came off fairly easily and in large enough sections and I was able to bend some other beams to make the switch. Oops... But it does look better with the right ones which are shorter. Quote
gregpj Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 And all done... I made a teenie modification so that the unnumbered plate could stay with the vehicle. I added a 1x3 beam into an open space under the hood and used the leftover stubby blue pins. Here is the plate attached. Finished shots... In the words of my seven year old son... "This thing is a beast." 2 Quote
donliu Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 I have a chance to sell my 41999. Question is it to early to get rid off it. The price seems to have picked back up after Christmas. Should I keep holding or sell it? Quote
nolanfan34 Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Depends on your goals I think. If you bought it with Christmas promos a couple of years ago, and essentially can double your money right now, can't argue with that. If you hold it longer, I still think it will appreciate further, although I am less confident than I was 6 months ago. Thinking through the same decision myself. I will say if you are going to sell, it is advantageous to do so on eBay where you can use the Global Shipping Program. 1 Quote

gregpj Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 I have a chance to sell my 41999. Question is it to early to get rid off it. The price seems to have picked back up after Christmas. Should I keep holding or sell it? Like nolanfan said, it depends on what you paid and what your goals are. The impending retirement of the crawler (9398) makes this a tough question to answer. Without a cheaper option, aftermarket demand for either set could drive them both up further. Personally, if you're happy with the profit you'll realize from this sale, I say go for it. I'm selling my last one if the price is right.... It really is a great set, but it almost seems like the "scandal" of only 20,000 made with resellers grabbing so many has turned a lot of people off and affected demand. Quote
jaisonline Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 . It really is a great set, but it almost seems like the "scandal" of only 20,000 made with resellers grabbing so many has turned a lot of people off and affected demand. exactly. it is an awesome build and set (specially w/ the kids). in my opinion, 41999 looks way better than 9398 although 9398 seems to handle / climb better due to less weight and length. Mos_Eisley Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 I don't think there was any kind of scandal that turned regular buyers away, and even if there was, it certainly isn't impacting your average buyer today. Resellers were the only ones who ever really created any kind of great demand for the set from the start. 1 Quote
