Sauromosis Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 10228 - Haunted House (mislabeled on Amazon as 10229) 10224 - Town Hall 10214 - Tower Bridge Quote
Fcbarcelona101 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I would expect 10228 to be around for at least this whole year if not more. Tower Bridge I can see retiring at some point before the end of the year. There's really no way to tell for sure. Quote
Sauromosis Posted March 21, 2013 Author Posted March 21, 2013 That's good information but I meant a discount such as 5 or 10%. Quote
Fcbarcelona101 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 That's good information but I meant a discount such as 5 or 10%. lol completely misread your post, mixed up discounted for discontinued. Anyway, not sure if the deal is still there but TRU, of all places, had the Haunted House at 169.99 not long ago. Quote
Blackjack Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 It seems like Tower Bridge has been around for a while. Quote
Grolim Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Those sets are often excluded from some stores discount sales. Just have to keep an eye out for the rare times they do go on sale. Quote
legopocalypse Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 On Amazon in Jan. the Town Hall was around $150.00 and in Feb. was around $155.00 so I would definitely wait for another discount before buying Town Hall as its not going anywhere anytime soon IMO. Quote
comicblast Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 I would say Haunted House, just because it probably will be out for a LONG time. Just like the Death Star, which is almost always at $358, it probably will be discounted by like $20 eventually...hopefully. Quote
Huskers1236 Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Yes, all three of these have seen discounts. I suspect that Tower Bridge will be your best bet for decent price breaks as it will be going EOL first of the three I would think. Town Hall has seen some nice discounts of about 25% already as well. With the Haunted House being a limited set, I doubt it will see the discounts the others see. Quote
Maverick2k1 Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Dang definitely would like to pick up the town hall for $150. Pretty sure I got plenty of time for this though. Quote
Snowcrash Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Assuming that none of these sets see a surprise discontinuation over the summer expect the deep discounting to begin in mid October and continue throughout the holidays with the occasional spillover into January. Every once in a while a sale will spring up at any moment on Amazon though, so be alert and don't hesitate hoping to catch these sets at the absolute bottom of the market. These are all large, exclusive sets so you're unlikely to see them offered at less than 20% below MSRP. Personally I'd strongly consider pulling the trigger whenever they go below 10% off as you'll almost certainly make money if you can hold the sets for a few years. The one word of caution here is you may be stuck holding them for a while, especially the Haunted House which is a recent edition to the Lego lineup. If you've got the cash and a sufficiently long investing horizon though 10% would be my target. Quote
Huskers1236 Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 With the limited outlets having the Haunted House, I had no problem paying retail for them, though I got them at LEGO Shop at Home so I guess you could say they were 5% off. If I buy more of the other 2(I have 2 of each), they will have to be on a pretty good sale. I have other targets such as the Volkswagon Van and Sopwith Camel that I would like to add a few more of next. Quote
