This is what people will be willing to pay for a particular item, so yes, even if the price does increase, that is what people are willing to pay for it, so it doesn't really change anything. We are showing prices of what people are currently paying on the secondary market in the largest LEGO marketplace. If this makes the Falcon go from $2400 to $2700 and it stays that way, well then that's what people are willing to pay for it on ebay at that time. In our heads the set may be worth less because you know they are passing the costs on, but the number is the number. Understood. I was looking through the eyes of new investors (ie. non eBay sellers) who get excited to see the prices rise up in May only to find out it is due to costs of selling. It is just apparent that eBay (like Amazon) has taken a look at the profit margins/percentages of selling prices that sellers get and adjusted their fees accordingly. Books/movies/toys have historically very high margins for sellers while computers/electronics do not so fees for computers/electronics will go down while others will rise. Is it eBay's strategy to become the premier computers/electronics provider ? They have had to realize that it was not going to happen. In the past you could justify buying the expensive sets over the lower priced ones by factoring in the fee reduction for sets valued at over 1k. Now, if you are buying a $2500 set as an investment, you do it knowing that an additional 5% of the price of the set won't be coming back - so that has to discourage investors from buying those sets. Here will get an idea of what groups this price change will affect the most/least Under $20 = 60,759 $20 - $50 = 19,794 $50 - $100 = 8,068 $100 - $250 = 5,160 $250 - $500 = 1,058 $500 - $1000 = 275 $1000 - $2000 = 100 Over $2000 = 23 So not too bad. Only 123 LEGO listings will get beat up with major price hikes. Percentagewise, the fees increase is about 30% on $200 item and goes up from there. 30% is pretty major for many people. Jeff, I am curious to see that breakdown for December. Most likely more listings will be affected by this price hike at that time frame.
