Mark Twain Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 What the what did Lego do this time? Likely for the Chinese/ Asian market? 1 Quote
spener90 Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Interestingly enough... I kind of dig it. I think this will make kids go bananas. 1 Quote
CosmicSpeed Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Wow, so it actually IS a thing. People thought "LEAF" was going to be this line. I love how absolutely absurd it all looks. Quote
MotorCityMuscle Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 will this replace ninjago? it feels a little ninjago'y to me 1 Quote
Darth_Raichu Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Is this based on a cartoon series? This is clearly a retelling of Journey to the West story with Sun Wukong / Monkey King. I like the overall design but I am a fan of the story and most of its incarnations This line clearly took a lot of inspirations from Chima and Nexo Knights 2 Quote
Shortbus311 Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 This line clearly took a lot of inspirations from Chima and Nexo KnightsThat doesn't bode well for this line then. Quote

Maybe with a bit of Ninjago mixed in as well. Quote
Shortbus311 Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Could become a movie series... didn't Lego and Universal just announce a partnership? Quote
Gonkalin Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Fun stuff. I like them. Wonder if they will be limited to China or available outside the China market? Quote
Mark Twain Posted April 24, 2020 Author Posted April 24, 2020 Could become a movie series... didn't Lego and Universal just announce a partnership? Could be but releasing sets before a film is a bit putting the cart before the horse. The whole thing looks like it is targeted to a non USA market. That would be a major shift on TLG if they want to move further in China. Maybe the recent lawsuits against bogus bricks paved the way to opening up the market or I’m reading too much into it. Quote
$20 on joe vs dan Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 now kids are all gonna mis-spell "Monkey" like "Doughnut" Quote
oneknightr Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Monkey King and Bull mechs are amazing! My 7yo is going to go nuts for these! Quote
jaisonline Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 kids will prob love it. some cool kiddie aspects. The ship / hidden base would have been great for that Spy theme from 4 -5 years ago. is it based on this? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Monkey_King_(film) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMI3zqIODf8 Quote

House Schubert Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 That mech is HUGE! And, If people’s love of Ninjago city is any indication... this “super busy, lots of colorful detail, Eastern pop-culture” style will be a huge hit. Quote
TheOrcKing Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 When I saw the box art in the thumbnails, I thought these were going to turn out to be another Ninjago knockoff from the usual sources. So glad I was wrong. Here it would seem LEGO has decided to stop monkeying around with ninjas instead diving deep into the culture (relatively at least by bringing the folklore up to speed in today's world). Oh, and Pigsy's Food Truck for the win. 22 hours ago, Darth_Raichu said: Is this based on a cartoon series? This is clearly a retelling of Journey to the West story with Sun Wukong / Monkey King. If these stock images are being scattered now then chances are a trailer or some other promo will surface shortly. Quote
Ecto Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 Sign me up. These all look awesome and really go with the ninjago city aesthetic. They also definitely look like something with a TV show or movie. Interesting note, monkey King in the mech set was totally in last series of polybags wasn't he? Quote
njlegolover Posted May 16, 2020 Posted May 16, 2020 I'm a bit torn. Impressed with the drawing quality. Ok w/ voiceover (always prefer sub but believe not the original audience). Eh about the story line. Not seeing much discussion on the sets (unless someone can direct me). Not sure how to view these as investments. I personally like the monkey king mech and will probably purchase but the starting price seems a bit high. Quote
fourkidsbuilding Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 The big mech and the headquarters look promising. I guess it all depends on if the show is a hit or not... Quote
