COVID-19 / Coronavirus Discussion

I don’t buy the argument that impeachment caused us to not pay attention to the virus. If that were true we’d be one of the few nations left unprepared. Each country was blindsided by this pandemic.

I’m not sure anyone is wholly to blame for the virus, however, the panic may have something more to do with a political strategy of sowing distrust in government and the media so people no longer trust information as credible in a vital and critically important time.

The impeachment caused me to ignore the mainstream media.  There was only so much political circus one could take in an election year :D

I can not help myself but it seems like US gov stil "does not get it".. ! .. with your population, general healtcare dispositions, a total TROLL as a head of the state..  .. you are all freaked out of Italy scenario but that is where you are heading if your gov does not take truly drastic measures, such as:

a) total federal quarantine
b) only medicine and groceries purchases allowed (+ preferably only by a SINGLE dedicated family member)
c) postal offices and tank stations operational
d) totally STRICT penalties for anyone who does not wear some mouth/nose protection in the public
e) .. since you have such a large population perhaps even a curfew such as after 9 pm NO PUBLIC apperance whatsover

we took most of these precautions and our average daily exposure rate after cca 22 days is only in general around 5 % percent (1000 positive in 22 days} with an outlook to release the strict rules in about 10-14 days.

well, that might be very well an appropriate answer. This disease is not anything like a black death. Im just sharing the general experience from the currently "hottest zone" in the World. And every single med professional is stating the same. take your pick.

Or maybe they didn't want it to turn into the laughably overhyped, overblown and panic inducing shitshow that the media has produced.

I would SO love to eat crow on this.  I can't tell you how much I would like to be wrong.  And I suppose we will see.  But, If the big cities go into hard core "stay at home mode" and very few die, then will it have been a " laughably overhyped, overblown and panic inducing shitshow" or just the right solution?

I bet $1 China will not be pulling out to show the world they beat the virus.  I would not be surprised if China is doing whatever they can to help Japan put on Olympics as scheduled this summer.

The media is so freakin´dumb here. This weekend our politicians debated about wether to impose curfew or not. At the same time german governmental TV published on Saturday that Numbers of infections are decreasing...this dumb f****. This is because.....during weekends the district administrations do not report the Numbers of infectet to the RKI. How could you persuade people of a curfew, which is a huge cut on personal rights when you state everything is getting back to normal.

In the same respect, China and Japan have a terrible relationship and pumping money/time into the Olympics is unlikely. As much as China may want to show the world they beat the virus, they don't want Japan having center-stage, either.

And explain how parents who are forced to work from home and without necessary child care are supposed to take care of their children. Unfortunately due to the circumstances most kids will be put in front of video games and tablets for most of the day.  Their only socializing will consist of instant messaging.

Plan accordingly and put in place a schedule. I am seeing so many parents not know what to do, is that a reflection on today’s climate with staying home or how parents are too reliant on devices, video games and instant messaging to begin with?! Start with a basic, age appropriate CURRICULUM and progress from there. Lots of resources out there, one just needs to look. Children benefit from structure and so do parents.  Good luck✌️
