Visiting the US from UK, any obvious buys?

Question

Posted

Hi all,

I'm pretty new here and also revisiting lego (as my son is now of an age that has rekindled one of my childhood joys), so please be gentle.

I'm over in NY working next week, and had been looking on the US lego website to see if there was anything that was available in the US and not in Europe.

As an example 41627 (Luke Brickheadz) seems to still be available, yet is discontinued in the UK.

Are there any recommendations on (smalls I have to get them home), items that I should be looking out for?  And any goods stores to recommend visiting in NY ?

TIA

Remember that you can't buy much otherwise you'll have to declare it to customs upon return to the UK. May sure that you keep all receipts and be prepared to pay Customs Duty and VAT on every item imported. A few in your suitcase is OK, but be careful. When I bought all those 21104 Mars Rovers for the equivalent of £18 each, they cost me £33 each after customs.

Thanks, wasn't planning bulk, just a few odds and sods, the fun of the hunt etc etc..

What was the end result of your Hamleys orders, did you get any of the minifigure sets?

If you are in Mid-town Manhattan, you could consider here: https://www.lego.com/en-us/stores/stores/us/rockefeller-center

The prices tend to be higher, but they often have unique items not found in other US Lego brand stores.

Such as?

What about 40358 Bean There, Donut That exclusive from Target? Nothing too special about it except North American exclusivity.

Because you got caught? 18 to 33 seems almost impossible.

I paid $ cash so no receipt, customs determined charges based on the UK RRP of £24.99. Still a superb deal as these were £75+ already. It was my first import from the USA, but I always get a receipt now. I declared them as I had 3 stuffed suitcases and knew that amount could result in serious prosecution. I worked for American Airlines at the time so not subject to baggage allowance.
